Favourite moments
I've been thinking about a topic like this for a while now.
I mean, we all have our favourite episodes, scenes, sequences, quotes etc. But what about those little, brief and unobtrusive moments that somehow manage to stay in our minds, moments that may not be of high significance but nevertheless can add something to the atmosphere or provide a deeper insight of the characters?
I think it can be fun to make a collection of our favourite moments, bits that last less than, let's say, three seconds.
Starting with one of mine:
"Find out where he is and pick him up", Sherlock says to Lestrade after having proved that the Vermeer painting was a fake.
It was not until after the umpteenth time of watching TGG that I noticed that special one-second look John gets from Sherlock:
"You didn't really doubt me, John, did you?", he seems to say.
To me, one captivatingly beautiful moment.

I love the incredibly smug look Sherlock has on his face just prior to the explosion in The Great Game which knocks him to the floor.

Maybe it isn't fair to call this insignificant, but one the best moments in the whole series for me is when John, at Sherlock's grave, finally comes to attention and turns to the left to leave. It's very brief, but quite excellent and appropriate.

oh oh yes; I have always loved that look! He really does the "mischievous teenager" look so well !

I know it's obvious, but I love the moment when Sherlock peeks round the door in the lab and introduces himself including the sweet little wink at the end .

So many great moments! How can I choose?
I do love the sweet smile that Sherlock gives John, in the pool scene, just before John attempts to stand back up.
Not to mention many other 3 second moments in that scene.

Yes, yes, yes and then some to all the above mentioned moments! I'm usually looking for the John and Sherlock moments, but I have to admit I love that incredible menacing look on Sherlock's face as he's going up the stairs after realizing Mrs. Hudson as been assaulted. Oh my! . I wish someone would come rescue me looking like that!

The first one I can think of is, during the drugs bust, when Sherlock asks John what he would say if he was dying and tells him to use his imagination. When John says "I don't have to", Sherlock realises John has been about to die, and the expression in his face is really priceless.

The look between Sherlock and Jim Moriarty when Sherlock is giving evidence in court and Jim is in the dock. They lock eyes and Jim subtly nods and smiles.

The moment when Sherlock realises it was John that shot the cabbie.

This is one of my faves. Snotty cop boss disses Sherlock. John slugs cop in nose. John gets tossed in squad car with matter of fact attitude. Sherlock smiles his approval and the defending of comrades. Note too the difference between Watson by now accepting his trouble with police calmly as taking one for the team as opposed to the graffiti frame up in Blind Banker. By now this sort of stuff is expected on the chase even though he was innocent of the other episode

And I like the twitch of a grin on Sherlock's face, confined to the side away from John. :-)

So many to pick from! I love the scene from the pilot when Sherlock and John have the pink suitcase back at the flat, and Sherlock (wearing a green striped shirt) turns and walks to the window and Benny does a little hip swivel and I fall off my chair.

I agree with all of you. So I guess we agree that just about every moment is priceless. (By the way, I think it's especially neat that Sherlock's mischievous look is knocked off by the explosion.)
Here's another one: at Kitty's flat, the look "Richard Brook" sneaks to Sherlock between his hands when no one else is looking. Chilling. Andrew was amazing in that whole scene.

Both their expression after Watson is slammed into the police car:
Sherlock Holmes: "Joining me ?"
Offline
kills me every time: "Fine. We'll start with the riding crop."
I also love when Sherlock finally explodes at Moriarty in Kitty's flat, after incredulous simmering. "Stop it. Stop it now!"

This is probably my favorite scene in the whole span of the series to date. Buckingham, Bedsheets and Boys Behaving Badly. Classic stuff.

In the pool scene of The Great Game, the pained look on John's face as he hears his next line "I can stop John Watson too" is gut-wrenching.

Agree, and speaking of that scene -
When John first walks out and Sherlock says "John," almost like a question. It's as though Sherlock thinks for just a fraction of a second, "John is Moriarty?"
