Oh, I think the people who posted this know only too well that Twitter will go into meltdown and did it just for this reason. The news came from people working there so they should know how media work. I suppose it cannot be helped but I find it disrespectful towards the fans.
And then this …
sam wollaston I'm in trouble for even mentioning a certain actor was in conference today, so if Twitter would kindly forget it please...

Oh I see what you mean. It's like the business with the Bananaman movie where the guy used Ben's name to generate interest in the Film.
It can be annoying, yes, and slightly disrepectful - unfortunately it does happen though, with anyone who has a big fanbase.

Yes, exactly. That was one of those things as well.

Ha ha, that's a good one.

Too late, my friend. And the picture that probably was not to be posted is already on tumblr. Funny how they do not seemd to understand the way social media work.

Oh I bet it was just an innocent mistake...
Be aware of sarcasm in this post

Of course.
I counted at least four people tweeting about him being there. And I really wonder how understanding some fans on Twitter are. I am not.

I do think some people don't get just how big a following he has.
I don't like the tone of that guy's tweets to be honest - as though it's Ben that's caused the problem by asking to keep it private; he's perfectly entitled to ask - he probably knows full well that people might've been expecting some announcement as soon as the visit was leaked.
One thing I have noticed whenever I've been on Twitter, is that those who are genuinely close to him rarely mention him by name - as though not to draw too much attention to him.

James Rhodes for example only tweets with Benedict's okay or in his name. And he does not use him for his own ends. That is the difference.

I do know what you mean.
To be fair these journos should really know better as well.
I guess these are the perils of social media these days, it's so instant.
Sorry I couldn't bring you better news tho

So, the thing is: visiting an editorial office like that is totally normal, and normally it doesn't get leaked to the 'outside world' unless they also do an interview or everyone involved agrees to tell the world about it.
It's just interesting that this guy already twittered about it yesterday... did nobody else from The Guardian know about that? Because then they might have told everybody who was in that room this morning to shut the fu** up about it.

Random personal note. I majored in journalism in the early 80's but ended up not staying in the field. These days I'm frankly relieved that I didn't.

I'm in sports journalism so thankfully not too close to it.
But I do know what you mean.
The originally tweeter, Rayner, has a bit of a mouth by all accounts. Food reviewers do eh?
Offline
Careful, clare. I'm occasionally doing food reviews...

It seems they dangerously underestimate the CumberCollective.
Don't worry, clare, I love your keeping us up to date.

The CumberCollective knows where the rabbit runs... or something like that...

Ha! Sorry Solar. There i go tarring everyone with the same brush! But he is know for being loose-lipped!
Im very annoyed actually that he was able to out that out there, it caused a buzz that didn't need to be there. And they should know better than to go public when he's requested otherwise.
Bet Benedict wasn't best pleased. He should be able to do what he wants without the whole world knowing about it.
I'll admit though I'm happy he's home
Offline
I'm thrilled he's home for a bit, too - I was almost getting homesick on his behalf!
Mind you, I wonder if Benedict was shocked to cause such a buzz in the offices of The Guardian!
I can't believe how mobbed that meeting was!

Don't you think it's that crowded the other days?

Of course it is... of course!
