IMO what will make you a believer is to read a few good Johnlock fan fics. In the hands of a good author, you will see it, no problem. Beware, though-- once you see it, you will never be able to un-see it. So unless you want your perceptions of Sherlock and John's relationship forever colored by the new glasses you wear once you see it, then it'd be better to stay away.
But it's FUN. So why would anyone want to stay away? *snerk*
