Mini rant here - it's annoying me that a small number of people are complaining that "he's in everything" - No he's bloody not!
Probably has to do with the fact that quite a few of his movies came out in close proximity. It's always a perception thing, and I have to admit I've had a similar thought when in January (shortly after The Hobbit) I was going to the cinema to watch 12 Years A Slave, and I had also just bought tickets to the Frankenstein cinema screening, and then the trailer for Osage County came on (which I didn't know he was in). When I saw him, I thought to myself, "Oh wow, Cumberbatch is everywhere these days."
Of course I know he's not. The release date timing plays a big role. Some movies sit on the shelf for over a year before they come out. It could happen that an actor works steadily for two years, and then all the movies are released within three months of each other.
You can't change people's perception, just like you can't change the innate urge to want to compare one actor against another. What really grates my cheese is those countless posts on the IMDb messages boards of "Hey, he looks just like [actor xyz]!" (I'm not talking about Benedict specifically, it's a general phenomenon.) In most cases I even say, "No, he doesn't." And even if there's a similarity, so what? What does that have to do with his acting? Or even anything?

I get what you're saying Teejay.
In Benedict's case he did have a lot of stuff released in close proximity, but an Actor's life must be a relatively insecure one at times and it bothers me that people would almost wish them out of work by saying "don't cast them, they're in everything" - and I'm not even talking about just BC here - people do it about everyone.
Actors have a relatively short period of time when they're really in demand and no one is forcing anyone to watch someone they don't want to see.
Plus it also seems like the world and his Uncle are experts in Movie Making and Film Criticism these days!
But that's enough of my moaning ;D

Yeah, I see what you're saying. And through my two actor fansites, I've also seen what can happen with all those ups and downs. It can very well happen that you're suddenly in demand and go from project to project without much of a break, and then suddenly there's a writer's strike or an actor's guild thing, and there's a hitch in the system. And once your name drops off the list of casting directors it's hard to get it back on it if you're not among the famous top 50.
I think Ben's now well known enough to have made a name for himself. Sherlock put him on the map, and Star Trek gave him a huge boost. Suddenly he's a commodity people consider casting, which is a great thing for an actor to be able to pick and choose the best out of what they're offered. I hope it stays that way for him.
As for the haters, the best is to just ignore them or politely point out where you disagree.

Well I just wanna say hooray for Ben!!!
He's an intelligent and humble man who I know is going to be one of the acting worlds hottest properties (he already is IMO) and I know he won't make a false move on his incredible rise

Acting is a tough tough industry and I think Ben is working hard to stay fresh and relevant. Plus he's made a name for himself in other mediums other than film (which is what we're worrying our lip over) being in theatre, TV, radio hence he's got opportunities in those as well. IMO that's the smartest move he's taken.

I hope that The Imitation Game is going to be succesful. That he also is accepted and let's say ... also honoured in a main role like this.
I like Star Wars as well as Star Trek ... but to be honest I don't want Benedict to be only known by a wider audience as the baddie in Star Trek or another (small) supporting act in Star Wars, 12 years..., AOC or whatever. It's a pity that TFE didn't hit the taste.

But the thing is that the 'wider audience' watches movies like Star Trek or Star Wars and not so much films like TFE, August or TIG.

Really can't wait to see The Imitation Game!

Agree with Solarsystem.
To be really widely recognised, he's got to take on some of the roles like Star Trek etc., in order to be able to keep his name on the casting lists.
That way he can also afford to do the films with a smaller target audience in between times.
(And I also can't wait to see TIG!)

Sometimes I wonder just how much he knows.

Yeah.... I like being part of a Cumbercollective. If that's how he wants to know us then that's fine by me!
I don't know what's going on with Rebecca only that she's pretty low so it'll be good for her to see later that you were thinking of her x

I can certainly relate to feeling low - I've had a horribly introverted and alone type day today - not even beautiful Benedict can completely lift me out of it.
I must drag myself off to do a few things now though and may not be back on until tomorrow.
Thanks for your company, and for the adorable pictures and sending hugs to all who need them xx
