I actually thought Khan's motives were very well explained, but the explaination is dotted throughout the film in various small conversations.
Of course i remember the crew, the torpedoes etc.. but you put right on the problem "the explanation is dotted throughout the film".

I also don't find Chris Pine overly convincing as Kirk. Not sure if that's Pine or the script
Both !

I see your points. I think the film probably makes more sense if you're familiar with the original series' and Khan episode/film. Zachary Quinto is very convincing as Spock (I wondered several times if they had to do multiple takes of a scene so he could keep a straight face!)
Yeah probably, i saw some episodes from the original séries but it was a long time ago when i was a child. Concerning Zachary Quinto nothing to say i meam i liked the way he plays.

I disagree with you on Simon Pegg's character though. LOVE Scotty
The problem is not the actor (i like the guy) but how the way he plays the character.

Tho he can only speak the lines he's given and act in the way the director tells him.

I actually think the motives of Khan (you know, the guy played by Benedict Cumberbatch?) were explained quite extensively and even more touchingly by himself (you know, the scene in the holding cell... I mean, come on, a tear running down his face and stuff...?
Benedict Who ? Oh sorry i have a stoneheart i didn't realise for the tear.
I'm joking but i'm allergic to bad melodrama in movies. With Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan oops Benny Chumberbat it was ok i mean not too much.

and also by Admiral Marcus (you know, the other baddie with that really big ship?). I don't think that you need to know anymore than that.
You mean Robocop - the psycho admiral - who tried to start the war, i thought it was not very original.

As for Scotty (you know, the guy played by Simon Pegg? Scotty, as in "Beam me up, Scotty!"?), I tend to agree. I don't really know where all this is coming from, it's a bit too much of everything for my taste... too twitchy, too much comic relief, I don't know. I really like Simon Pegg, but I don't see a lot of Scotty there.
I was wondering if the actor was only paid for the words he says on the movie... o_O I'm joking again but i thought it was too much.
Maybe i will try to rewatch this movie someday and give him a second chance. I was disappointed by the story (war, terrorism...) - SIGH - and maybe i expected something else. And i'm definitively not a J.J. Abrams fan i must say. I like science fiction movies but infortunately not this one i think.

I absolutely loved the film and all the characters - especially Khan!

You can vote for Star Trek: Into Darkness in categories: 'favourite movie' and 'favourite action movie', for People's Choice Awards 2014:
Also, you can vote as often as you like. :]

No category for "Best Villain"? Ah well... that's probably just at the MTV Movie Awards.

I went and I voted but I have to say that some of the people's choices absolutely appalled me.

The hours of crap TV prove that over and over again!

This is why I cannot stand dubts anymore.
And also why I became only obsessed with Sherlock when watching the 3rd series in englisch instead of the version in German tv...

You mean dubbing, right? And I'm with you on that one. I've been avoiding dubbed TV/movies like the plague for over 10 years now. Can be quite frustrating when the movie you desperately want to see isn't shown in any cinema in OV. I once drove to the Netherlands to watch a movie. For The Hobbit Part 1 in HFR I had to drive 90 minutes each way to Münster.
Yes, slightly crazy, but I regret nothing. Everyone needs a passion. The English language is one of mine.

Yes dubbing sorry ;).
I haven't been in cinema for ages. Mainly because of the 3D-versions which I don't like... Also I am waiting for the Hobbit Part 2 on Blu-Ray... OV? Forget it...
I have been watching "Be kind rewind" and "Robin Hood" in Finland... The subtitles in finnish AND swedish are bit confusing ^^

I guess it depends on where you live in Germany. The best city to catch OVs in the cinema is probably Berlin. I know Munich also has one or two OV-only cinemas. Düsseldorf and Cologne show movies in OV, but the selection is often limited to the big blockbusters or movies that get lots of press. If you want to see some small indie that isn't being hyped, you're often SOL.
Luckily, cinemas seems to have caught on for Hobbit part 2, because I was able to watch both the 2D and 3D HFR OV version in the cinema within a 45 minute radius of where I live. And, really, movies like The Hobbit are something you shouldn't just see on the small screen if at all possible.

Well in Aachen there has been student cinema with OV, but also only old stuff.
I got used to ignore cinema and just buy the blu-rays...
Our TV has 42 inches, so that's quite ok .

I also have a 42" TV at home, and I'm loving it. I still think it can't replace the experience of seeing something on the big screen, but I can understand that you wouldn't go if the only choice you had was dubbed movies.

Yes and even worse: 3D versions. I do not see in 3D in normal life... (
(I wonder if Louise has the same problem, as she mentions in the extras of Season 3.)
Well when we watched Star Trek, we directly chose the original, so I was bit shocked by that youtube clip....

I'm fine with 3D!

Maybe I would, if my eyes worked correctly...

I know other people who can't see 3D, and I totally get that you're fed up with all the 3D hype in cinemas. Even as a person who enjoys a good 3D movie, I would rather see a good movie in 2D than have a mediocre movie with lots of super duper 3D effects. I wish they would stop making every second movie in 3D. There are films that gain value through 3D, like Avatar, but it's really not necessary to force it upon anything that even remotely says "action movie", especially if it wasn't even shot in 3D to begin with.
So, yeah, I'm with you on this. And just for the record, I didn't even think the German clip was that bad. Benedict's voice is nice and deep, similar to his real voice. Pine's was okay-ish too. And the translation was good. Seriously, you can do much worse. Have you ever seen a dubbed movie in Eastern European countries or Russia? It's basically just one person, often with a lifeless voice, reading the whole movie while you can still hear the original dialogue very faintly in the background. Compared to that, German dubbing is da bomb.
