And they said we'd never make it!
Sheesh!
Party anyone?

The first thing that came to mind after seeing the topic:
The lyrics seem to fit perfectly. The y even have the line: "Everyone around the world come on!" I saw this group play live here a few years ago and they were great.

Well done everyone...
Wait till we get to topic 1895..

Color me an idiot but what's special with the number 1895? Was it a year that some particular Sherlock story was released or something like that? I'm sure the answer is obvious but I do not know what the number means. Go on, educate a newbie.

Oh, in scandal it's the number of hits John's blog got!
I think there's another thing to do with the year but I can't remember it right now...

Of course! How could I forget that one. I automatically thought it's a year.

Congratulations everyone. Did somebody suggest a party?

The year 1895 refers to a poem by Vincent Starrett (1886-1974)
221B
Here dwell together still two men of note
Who never lived and so can never die:
How very near they seem, yet how remote
That age before the world went all awry.
But still the game’s afoot for those with ears
Attuned to catch the distant view-halloo:
England is England yet, for all our fears–
Only those things the heart believes are true.
A yellow fog swirls past the window-pane
As night descends upon this fabled street:
A lonely hansom splashes through the rain,
The ghostly gas lamps fail at twenty feet.
Here, though the world explode, these two survive,
And it is always eighteen ninety-five.

In the canon, in The Adventure of Black Peter, Watson says the following:
"I have never known my friend to be in better form, both mental and physical, than in the year '95. His increasing fame had brought with it an immense practice..."
Later he says this:
"In this memorable year of '95..."
Having a Kindle really helps with looking up the exact quotes.

Of course you're right, Veecee! Starrett's poem refers to those quotes from the canon. It's a bit like original text and secondary literature...

I like your new avatar, tobe. Is that your stunt-double again?!

Yes, as I told you. The money was good, apparently.

Drama God I had to laugh at the 'color me an idiot'. It reminded me of a joke when Gerald Ford was President of the USA. Apparently there was a fire in the White House and the Presidential library was totally burnt, both books...including the one he was colo(u)ring in at the time.
Poor Gerald, never had the reputation for being bright.
