Rock solid theory after watching for the 1st time. Big time spoiler.

Just finished watching the 1st two seaons and love em.

Ill keep it short and sweet

I O U spoken by Moriarty does refer to the elements

I =Iodine= turns purple when heated

O =Oxygen=needed for fire=explosion

U =Uranium=nuclear=explosion

But that could only be a coincidence so more was needed

Moriarty specifically uses the Grimm tale "Hansel and Gretel"

"H&G" are seen to be eating candy with Mercury (Hg) on it

"H&G"=(Hg)=Mercury

They are showing us the element chart is being used on purpose

But wait....

Moriarty changes his identity to "Richard Brooks" an actor

Richard Brooks= RB

RB= Rubidium (Rb) #37 on the periodic table

Rubidium can be combined with Mercury to form an Amalgam, or mixture

The writers have showed us they connected the use of (Rb) in the same way they used (Hg)

So what is Rubidium....

Two common uses for (Rb) is in the making of Atomic Clocks and to create the color purple in fireworks.

So the writers have forshadowed that:
At a specific time somewhere, something purple is going to explode

On second thought, they probably just threw that in there to make people overthink everything just as a joke.

Cant wait for season three!

LOL - Very clever indeed! Could the dastardly Moriarty make The Purple Shirt of Sex explode - even from the grave?

Alles eine Frage des Blickwinkels.
It's all a matter of perspective.

as a chemist, I would really, really love it if this theory were correct. And I would kick myself so very hard.

Inventive new idea. I like the way you think.
