I only recently started watching the show, so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but in Reichenbach Fall, Sherlock answers "You" when Molly asks him what he needs. Initially, I thought that was him expressing his feelings for her (I really wanted it to be that, anyway), but now I'm wondering if that he just means that he needs her in order to pull off faking his death and nothing more?
Also, is Sherlock's definition of "mattering" or "counting" more along the lines of being crucial or important to beating Moriarty, and less of "mattering" or "counting" in the emotional sense?
In addition, in the Season 3 trailer ( ) that was recently released, Sherlock responds "The one person he thought didn't matter at all to me, was the one person that mattered the most" when John asks "why he did it." I assume that Sherlock is referring to Molly being the one person who matters most. However, when Sherlock is explaining himself in the trailer, the timing is such that his explanation begins with a shot of Molly (at 0:14), but ends right as John is walking into 221B (at 0:19). It could just be coincidence, but it makes me second-guess who the person is that he can't live without (John or Molly?). And if it is Molly who he is referring to, then why did he have to fake his death to protect her?
Sorry for the numerous questions. I hope I explained it enough.

I do not think it is John because Moriarty knew only too well that John mattered to Sherlock. However, it could be Mycroft or Molly. Assuming it was Molly this would mean she mattered the most as she was not targeted by Moriarty and therefore could help him fake his death. In the lab Moriarty observed how Sherlock behaved towards her and assumed that she was in no way important to Sherlock.
But I do not think that Sherlock's quote is the answer to John's question. I am sure that they belong to separate scenes.

I think you are correct to interpret that when Sherlock says he "needs" Molly he is referring to her helping him fake his death. The double meaning is there at first but IMO it becomes clear when he 'falls' what he needed Molly for.
I also think that when he references "the one person that didn't matter at all to me", he is refering to the one person crucual to helping beat JM that Moriarty discounted. The trailer makes it look (emotionally) like John, but I think we all know that JM is quite aware of how important John is to Sherlock so I'm desregarding that theory. I suppose it's possible that it could be Molly but I'm not assuming it. I keep thinking that the person could be Mycroft since maybe we can assume Moriaty knows of Sherlock's seemingly disdain for his brother; however, now I think it would be really interesting/funny if it were someone really off the radar like Anderson! LOL!
Molly was not one of the sniper targeted 'friends' of Sherlock so I don't think he was faking his death to protect her. He faked to protect John, Mrs. Hudson, and Lestrade. But in the even bigger picture, he faked his death to deceive the Moriarty web so he could bring it down.

Thanks for both of your responses! I have a better idea now of what he meant. I was just over-thinking it when I watched the trailer. Thanks again!

Ok, I've now watched it three times.
I think it is himself.

That would at least be typical. Makes sense.

I agree it can't be John, Moriarty knew John mattered, he was one of the three person who were the target of a hitman.
I think it's Molly, although Mycroft would be lovely
