Re: Free Rants

Poor tonnaree, I can imagine how you feel right now. I was the same when my dad was in hospital beginning of this year...
But then you have good news, and this is great!

Re: Free Rants

Thank you, tonnaree, the operation went well. She is still weak and bit confused but all in all her brain seems to work fine. She remembers everything and I think she just takes a bit time to get over the operation.
And I am glad your mom is well. Maybe she needs some iron infusions. I had some myself a while ago, they worked just fine.

Do we actually have a positive version of this thread? Or is it needed at all?

Re: Free Rants

I don't think we have, Mary, but it is a wonderful idea. Feel free to start a new topic.

Re: Free Rants

Glad to hear your mom is doing well Susi.   I'm about to take mine home from the hospital.

In addition to being happy that she's better I am also extremely eager to sleep in my own bed.

Re: Free Rants

Currently the craftsmen are painting our house from the outside. When I came back yesterday from school early, I quickly changed my clothes so I was wearing something "comfortable" and went into the kitchen to get me some coffee because I was totally tired. Then I heard a knock on the window. Seriously. The boss of the craftsmen was just going to talk to me. Can't they leave me alone? Yeah so I quickly pulled over a jacket and opened the window a bit, slightly annoyed because of the circumstances. He asked me if my parents were at home because he needed to make an appointment for further arrangements. It went like this:
"Are your parents at home?"
"No, they're working."
"So is your father at home?"
"No, he's working."
"Your mother isn't neither?"
"No, she's working."
"Are they tomorrow morning at home?"
"No, they'll both be working."
"We need to make an appointment, your father needs to call me. Would you tell him?"
"Yes, as soon as he's finished working."
So I closed the window (I was tempted to let down the shutters), grabbed my coffee and walked into the living room where my dad was working. Yes, he was at home but nevertheless he was working. Told him that the craftsman had bothered me because he needed to make an appointment and such. My dad told me that he already knew of that because the same guy had informed him. So basically that guy talked to me without reason. Actually I'm quite angry. When you return at home and you are totally done with everything, then at least you can expect to be left alone.
Dear craftsman. It's cool when you feel the need to talk to someone but please respect my privacy. Thanks.

Re: Free Rants

I always ask myself why people take a photo of some piece of food and post it on twitter for the world to see. As if it was a unique thing or some kind of news. It's just a sandwich or a sausage; not even a good looking one. Just an ordinary sandwich. Not a cake they made themselves or something they ate in a newly opened restaurant.
And other people feel inclined to join in and tell this person that the sandwich looks good, that they are hungry, too, or something similar. And soon there are many posts about in fact nothing just to be part of the community and share in. As if we see lemmings running in the same direction without thinking why they do it. Being a member of a group and having some insurance of self-importance.
I just don' t get it. It's something they have eaten and that is now digested. So what?

Sherlock mentioned  to John that he was annoyed seeing these pictures and we can read on John's latest blog that John remembers Sherlock who told John that people should not forget to live.
I stop this rant now and do some living.

Re: Free Rants

I suppose it has to do with the psychological aspect of the internet and social platforms where there is a lot of social pressure coming from certain groups. For example when you are in school and everybody in you class is on twitter or on facebook your reputation depends on the amount of "friends" and the amount of "likes" you get. Especially young people are exposed to this social pressure. They feel that they have to do a comment or a "like" to be recognised and be a member of the group.
The picture of a sandwich is suddenly much more that just a picture but a means to reclaim and proof your existence and worth in a collective.

Re: Free Rants

I have to study for my biology exam tomorrow but ugh I'm tired, I don't want to do this. Procrastinating is such a typical thing for me to do, I hate myself for it.

Re: Free Rants

Don't hate yourself too much, Mary. This problem is quite common. And you won't stop it by blaming yourself anyway.
Think of the things you know already. Exam times are hard times, so be gentle with yourself

Re: Free Rants

Harriet is right, I guess many of us are quite good at procrastination from time to time. And the more there is to do/learn, the more likely it is to postpone things. I'm sure everything will turn out fine!

Re: Free Rants

Thanks guys.  I'm still trying to learn but writing exams on Saturday is always upsetting. And biology is really my worst subject.

Weekend exams can't be fun. Good luck with the test! What is it about? Genetics? Ecology?
