Oh I've just discovered there's a sequel fic to Ten Days. I'm about to read it, so I don't know if it's any good, but Ten Days was really very good - but very very dark. So, be warned.

Thank you very much, Ten Days was very good if gory. The bad news is:
I just tried to download it via Flagfic and learned that FFnet no longer works with the site. IMO this is ridiculous as they do not have their own download method, you cannot even open the entire work but have to copy it chapter by chapter. I do not think that they are doing themselves a favour with that.

Thanks very much, I did not know it was on AO3 as well.

Yeah FF.net is far inferior to AO3 imo; I much prefer to read things in AO3 if I can.
I knew Ten Days was on AO3 so I figured it must be there but I didn't have time to go look for it - thanks for the link Pav

Someone recently was saying they hadn't read a fic where John figures out Sherlock is alive. This fic isn't so much John figuring it out as Irene telling him, but it's still not a bad read.

I am just reading 'The Road Less Travelled' ( ) which has been recommended somewhere in this thread, and OMG I just have to laugh so hard, it's hilarious!
EDIT: Honestly, this is probably the most funny fanfic I've ever read.
Need an example? Here is how Sherlock explains to John why he secretly sleeped in his bed:
"So I was going to wake you, but then you were asleep." Good grief, he called this an explanation?"So then I thought you must be tired, and I shouldn't wake you," he carried on. "But I didn't want to leave, in case you woke up, then I could..."
"...tell me about the tea," I finished for him, sighing in exasperation.
"Exactly." He smiled, obviously pleased that I had caught on at last. "But then I was a bit tired, so I thought I might as well lie down, as I was waiting here anyway and there was plenty of room on the bed, due to you being quite small."
EDIT 2: I finished now. It made me laugh tears, was sweet like chocolate cake, broke my heart and fixed it eventually. I can highly recommend this one.

And sequel

By the way, I can strongly recommend reading through Sailor Chibi's collection of fics. She's really a very good writer and she writes in a range of genres. She has about 5 or 6 WIPs going at the moment and updates them all every weekend. I don't know how she keeps them all straight!

You can recommend nearly all fics by verityburns. They are wonderful . If you haven't read "The heart in the whole" yet, do it!

Somebody did a fanfic with straight John and asexual Sherlock and a woman who is the right one for John.
WiP, starting nicely. With Sarah.
"And not or" by ShinySherlock

I am quite into first-person fics but there are so few out there :-(. Can anyone recommend me some? (I already know The Quiet Man and The Progress of Sherlock Holmes, both from the same author ivyblossom and both really great!)

Shouldn' this one be recommended in the non-slash threat? There are so few recs there that people will be glad about it.

Oh I can't help you there. I dislike first person fics (I have read the ones you've mentioned though). I've tried several, but the first person POV often has me backing out of them again quite quickly.

just out of curiosity: why is that? I read this quite often but I don't understand it really (as I am a sucker for them myself, obviously )

I'm not entirely sure. I think because when it's written in the first person, the reader (you) becomes that character, and I don't like that. I'm not John Watson; I'm me. I prefer to read stories in the second or third person as I find it easier to immerse myself in the story's universe that way. Maybe that sounds backwards but I find first person fics just breach that fourth wall in a way that doesn't work for me.
I probably didn't clear that up for you at all.

no, I perfectly understand that. Actually, the reason why you dislike first-person is the reason why I like them . So our way of thinking is quite similar in that respective, only our taste is different.

just found this utterly beautiful fic dealing with the question how John, though being thoroughly straight, could fall for Sherlock:
