Who's the guy in the statue, Neptune? He's holding Neptune's trident fork.  Reminds me of the British song Rule, Britannia!, with the refrain of Rule Britannia! Britannia rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.

Especially considering the award was won for a movie about slavery, that seems.....  oddly interesting.

ancientsgate, are you sure the award was explicitly won for "12 Years a Slave"...? I thought he won the award because of several projects he was in this year... after all, it's called "Artist of the Year", right?

Self-mockery, that's what I see in his look. It's as if he wants to say "See, told you so, had to happen sooner or later" - and at the same time he's very much amused about this whole thing, but also very moved.
