After all, it is perfectly possible to have sex with, or be sexual attracted to, a person without being emotionally affected, just as it is possible to have a deep emotional tie to a person and sex never entering the picture.

No one said that asexual persons in general can't be passionate. This, as well as allowing feelings, still goes hand in hand with sexual desire for me. I'm aware that it's possible to have emotions without sex and vice versa, but in Sherlock's case, that doesn't seem to be matter from how I perceive he is portrayed in the series. And that's just my personal opinion, since tonnaree asked for opinions.

where exactly do you see this specific sexual component if I may ask? I also see that he is very passionate and that he is probably suppressing a lot of feelings but I am not entirely sure that sexual feelings are part of that.

Re: Fan Fiction Addicts General Round Table Discusion - ADULT CONTENT

Maybe this is like the Johnlock argument.  I see Sherlock as a sexual being because I want him to be.  It's not really anything overt in the show and the writers may do that on purpose.

On an unrelated side note, today I remembered why I don't like getting caught up in WIPs.*sigh*

Re: Fan Fiction Addicts General Round Table Discusion - ADULT CONTENT

Sailor Chibi has about a half dozen WIPs running simultaneously and she updates them every week. I don't know how she can keep them all straight!

But yeah some of the WIPs I've subscribed to but I'm waiting for them to be complete before I read anymore, just because the updates are either sporadic or really short.

Let me start out by stating that people can see Sherlock any way they want, sexual, asexual, space alien, whatever. I truly do not care. And whether you're a Johnlock fan, Sherlolly or... what is that term for sexual relation between Mycroft and Sherlock?.. well that one too, knock yourself out. It's all fine.

On to what you said Kerkian:
It is entirely within the realm of the possible that I misunderstood youm but what you said in your last post was:

On a more serious note: I don't think he's asexual because I agree with you that there is a certain amount of repressed passion in him; his violin play for example is betraying that, and also the composing. Also, coming to think of it, the commitment with which he throws himself into things- be it a case, be it the search for hidden cigarettes.
In my opinion, he strictly doesn't want to allow feelings to get in the way of his work, not even with Irene Adler, though he clearly does find her interesting

(Emphasis mine)

Therefore I inferred that you meant that repressed passion, dedication and emotional involvement isn't something an asexual person has. If I got it backwards I apologise, but I've had to argue these points with soooo many people I sometimes get a little over sensitive. My bad.

@tonnaree and Wholocked. That's the Catch-22 of writing WIPs. No one wants to read them worrying they'd be abandoned, or walk off if updates become irregular. But, speaking from the other side of the equations, the irregular updates might easily be the result of lacking comments, interaction or even just reading, from followers. So the thing bites its own tail.

Yes, backwards it was, but that's okay. The signals are un-crossed now.

I know. I have quite a few WIPs I am reading. There are others I am subscribed to, but either because the frequency of posts or the stule of writing I get lost between chapters, so I am waiting for them to be completed, or at least for several chapters to be available to read.

Plus, I don't think I could keep track if I had any more WIPs to read!!!

I must confess, most of the time when I go to Archive to look for new stories I check that box that searches for completed only.

I only don't read WIPs, but I suscribe to some of them, which is something the writer gets to see as well.

In my experience there is always an enormous increase in readers, comments and kudos once your fic is no longer a WIP. I am very thankful for those who read my fics while they are still under construction, but I also fully understand the mayority of readers who don't.

BTW, I never understood the mentality some of the writers are showong. "I will only continue writing / posting if I get enough comments" or such. I always write mainly for my own pleasure, and not for the attention of others. Of course I am very happy when people comment on my work, but most of the fun comes from writing.

Oh, they do??
Of course it is great when people love your work, but...  I would also never do anything in clay just because "everyone would like it". At first, it's me who has to like it, I agree with you there.

So far I only started one WIP; not because of the waiting, but because I'm too afraid that the writer might just stop somewhere.

Re: Fan Fiction Addicts General Round Table Discusion - ADULT CONTENT

A couple of times I have mentioned that I don't much care for AU's and hardly ever read them.
However the past few days I have been in desperate need of distraction and was browsing for a nice long fic.

I've also had it in the back of my mind that I really should read one of the most famous fics in all of Sherlock fandom.

.......and that's how I FINALLY got around to reading Performace in a Leading Role.

What can I say about this fic that hasn't already been said?  I giggled, I swooned, I cried like a baby.
it would be a wondeful story regardless but the best thing about it was that the characters of John and Sherlock WERE TOTALLY John and Sherlock.  And even the supporting characters felt true, changed only enough to fit them into the world of the story.  I especially loved Irene Adler high on Rockstar and barging into J&S's bedroom!

Anyway, I don't know if I'll suddenly start reading a lot of AU's but PIALR was outstanding and provided me with several days of most welcome distraction.

Re: Fan Fiction Addicts General Round Table Discusion - ADULT CONTENT

Minor complaint about a recent fic I read.

I know that including the phrase "oh god yes" is practically obligitory for any Johnlock fic, but you really don't have to use it in every other paragraph.

That story was my introduction to this fandom. I've read it three times, it is so amazing.

Minor rant.

Please note this is a PERSONAL opinion and I hold no ill will against anyone who disagress.

I truly do not like Real Person Fic.  I ship John and Sherlock, Not Ben and Martin.

Now this is not to say I've never had fantasies about the actors.  I'm only human.  I don't even have a problem with writing them down for private pleasure.  However, there's somethig about publishing them for the whole world to see that feels like crossing a line to me.

/end rant/

I absolutely agree with you and would not read such fics.

Re: Fan Fiction Addicts General Round Table Discusion - ADULT CONTENT

I don't read Ben/Martin fics or similar things nowadays, but I did read a lot of real people fan fiction in my teenage years and don't see anything wrong with it. As long as you're aware it's just fiction and don't confuse it with reality, what's the problem?
