Hello!
I am from Texas too! I found this forum but was shy to say "hi", because I
am from Texas. After leoninchelle's post I decided to "brave up" because of the
sweet welcome you all gave. My love with British music, comedy and drama began as a teenager, many, many years ago.
I thank PBS for bringing the Brits to my life (having a large Brit drama collection thanks to them.) Also an obscure station for airing "Withnail & I" and "The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner"
back then.
I adore Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes, it was great fun to tune into MYSTERY each season and see Vincent Price introduce each show.
I love this modern Sherlock. It is so smart. The casting is perfect. I watch each episode
through the eyes of John Watson, from his point of view. Cannot wait to see his reactions
in Season 3. Martin is just so good, what expressions.
I very much enjoy the video commentaries on the dvds, the Gatiss/Moffat enthusiasm is fun.
Benedict Cumberbatch is so versatile, a secret desire would be to see him play Nick Drake
in a biopic, but Nick's family will not allow a biopic. If they did Benedict would be perfect.
Favourite British musicians are (the late) Nick Drake, Paul Weller, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft,
Mark Hollis, Scott Matthews, & the like. A far as other favorite British actors/series the list is too long. Suffice it to say I know of more about British TV than American TV.
I will say "bye" now as PBS is airing Hollow Crown Henry the 4th Part 2 tonight, must get
my pets down for the evening so I can tune in.

Welcome to the forum, Shirl.
What is it about Texas that makes you so shy? If it is any relieve for you, I don't think we're having many prejudices against Texas over here.

Warm welcome from me as well!

So glad you decided to step up. We'll brave the world together and conquer ridiculous stereotypes left and right. It will be fun! Think I've got my Browning around here somewhere...
You say you're from Texas, and yet I notice you use proper English spelling (favourite). Are you originally from Texas?

Hello and welcome! I am from another part of the world and I really don´t have any prejudice concerning Texas! What are they, btw?
I adore Jeremy Brett, too....

Thank you all for the greetings! To explain I am not shy “because” I am from Texas, but rather hesitant to admit I am from Texas. The southern part where I was born/raised and still live is a bit um… “bubba –ish” in general. Backwards and a bit narrow minded, compared to, well, everywhere else. To them England may as well be Mars. Maybe it is just this section of the south, you know the type “no outsiders”, etc.. I find it embarrassing.
SilverMoonDragonB, yes Jeremy Brett has been my Holmes for years. One of my favourite Brett scenes is the opening of The Final Problem, where Holmes is being chased through the streets, a concrete fixture is pushed off the building top towards him, causing the long banner to come down around him on the ground, as he pulls the banner away from his head and looks up to the building top,,, well the look on his face. Then he sneaks back into his apartment and has Watson pull down the shades, and he takes his gloves off and throws them to the floor, exclaiming “God damm” then “Watson, might I have a match?” When I think of Brett as Holmes those two scenes pop into my mind first. They are the source of my Holmes crush.
Then when I read Benedict Cumberbatch would be the new Holmes I was tickled as I had seen him in The Last Enemy and really liked him. He is the modern Sherlock,
no doubt. Now he has my heart as Sherlock. Those two men for the two eras are perfection!
SolarSystem, yes Paul Weller’s music makes me happy & Richard Ashcroft solo &
w/ The Verve is just so good, and the epitome of “cool” onstage to me.
Leoninlechelle, actually I was not aware I did something proper, thank you, good for me!
Yes always have lived in South Texas. Thank you as well for the greeting & yes
together is good! This place looks to be fun doesn’t it?, So many kind people here.
It will be good to learn ideas and insights to the series.
And to all you others “thank you ” for the kind welcome and now I am off to read through some of the many, many threads. What a WEALTH of information and lovely, lovely photos to go through. This may just take a while! Plenty to keep me entertained until Season 3!
Hello back & thanks to all, Shirl
