@ancientsgate He is definitely cute and adorable! It took me a long time to get it, but when I saw him in the flesh, face to face, it was just instant WOW. Nowwwwww I get it. Full on Freemanite.

I love, love, love his John. Don't know his other roles very much at all. Just like BC, we Americans hadn't heard of Martin before Sherlock and The Hobbit. But to me, he's handsome, smart and funny. To me (again), cute and adorable are for kittens, puppies and kids under 5. *shrug*
Oh, I get what you mean, but I am sure SH didn't mean for the word "cute" to be taking away from his manhood in any way.
I am a bit with you though, as far as Martin is concerned. I am ok with the kittens and jam/hedgehog stuff, some of it is quite lovely, but it gets a bit overfraught at times and then it really annoys me.
Generally it's absolutely alright to say that Martin is cute, as long as they all remember he isn't a Hobbit/kitten/hedgehog in real life but a man, and I would describe him in exactly the same words you used up there. "Handsome, smart and funny" sounds just right to me.
