Hello!

Although I have never been member of an Internet forum nor of a fandom, I decided to register in here. Don ´t ask me why, I don´t know it myself  . Hello everyone!
When I was about 10 years old, I read Astrid Lingren´s trilogy about Detective Kalle and I have been an avid detective stories´ reader since then. I have always been a keen reader – especially after reading the Swallows and Amazons series when I was 8-9 years old. I must have been about 12 when I finished reading all the Holmes stories, it must have been after the birth of my first child that I watched Jeremy Brett´s outstanding performance in the Granada series…and it must have been my husband who told me once that there was a new series about Sherlock Holmes on TV that night
Well, I don´t mind mentioning some basic facts about me, I am in my mid-thirties, I have three small children, so the question "what do you do when you are not doing Sherlock?“ made me laugh a bit.
I am a French teacher (je suis donc capable de mener une conversation legere au sujet de Sherlock en francais ) but I think this is exclusively an English speaking forum. As I am not a native speaker, please do excuse my mistakes – grammar, syntax, punctuation, well, everything and feel free to correct it. For example, I can´t find the English apostrophy so I use the French one, sorry...
I hope I find here interesting things to read about! Yes, I would have forgotten – I come from a country which is directly reffered to in one of Holmes´ well known stories and I was born in a town which is mentioned in one ACD´s story as well. I have always found the latter story bizarre – and not so very well known.

Thanks! I am a French teacher, but not French . I teach French to adult public in my country. Je ne suis donc pas locuteur natif, tu sais. En plus, je ne suis pas devenue membre de ce forum pour corriger des fautes d ´orthographe!

Thanks, Davina. It´s nice to discover somebody who likes them, too. It´s old-fashioned a bit these days, I dare say, the books are slow-paced but I still like them. As a child, I wished so much I could visit the Lake District!

Re: Hello!

Oui, c'est vrai.

I also dreamed of visiting the Lake District and playing at pirates (ooo a bit like Sherlock then!)

No, I am not. The country I live in does not feature in the Final Problem, as far as I know. It does in another well known story. I am afraid that ACD got it quite wrong, but he wasn´t obviously a specialist in sociopolitical situation in Europe and he didn´t bother to do a research. I don´t mind it, though.
