Nakahara, I wouldn't watch it as a documentary - it's a film with a story, a dramatisation of real events.   To be fair, it's stated in the film that the parliamentary hearing is imaginary (as it's taking place in 2020!).  However, I think the most outrageous things in it are true!  (The bus, etc.).

I second that.
I've been following the news coverage since my already paid-for trip depends on the outcome. The dramatisation in the movie is quite obvious, like with some characters' exaggeration, but facts remain facts, like misleading people with the NHS logo.

Not really sure what you meant in your last sentence...

A year ago it wasn't clear why the Remainer Benedict would play the mastermind behind Brexit.
While actors don't pick roles based solely on their political preferences, it would be odd to see Benedict in anything glorifying Brexit.
Well, the film was empathically not glorifying it
It was about a driven person and Benedict plays those with gusto.

One scene stuck with me the most, it's when Rory despairs and says that while they argue from the scientific point of view, the other side just lobs some grotesque lies at them and they barely keep up with putting out fires. Like those leaflets about 70 Mio coming from Turkey *eye roll*

The same business of making voters angry and afraid seems to be going on in pretty much every other country too these days

I absolutely loved the film. I felt like there were a few parallels to Sherlock and The Thick of It. The film is very controversial and makes viewers boil with rage no matter what side they were on two years ago.

And the premiere just one week before the upcoming vote? Perfect timing.

Also, it was quite clear from the trailer but the film showed even clearer why Benedict would take on a role of a Brexiter.

Hi guys,

I know that many of you have been to BFI Southbank screenings and talks. Could you please help me with a couple of newbie questions?

Do you know how to get to the red carpet area? Where is it situated, do people need special tickets for it? Or is there a meet and greet after the panel? Would you advise to arrive well in advance?

Thank you!

Somebody leaked 50 seconds of Jodie's first episode. Not spoilery at all but I couldn't help thinking of Jim in TAB when she went

"It's on the tip of my" - and pointed at her tongue

Seeing how it's a London thing, it's probably the tour. Escape rooms rotate over to other locations as far as I know.

It's so exciting! I'm glad they keep the fandom going, whatever this project is! I also hope people outside of London will get something out of it too

I wasn't quite sure what Vhanja meant because I wouldn't be bothered by such considerations in a rec at all (no matter whether the author can stumble upon it or not). A recommendation is for potential readers and concrit (like a lengthy advice for the author to think about characterization) would be out of place there. Doesn't mean that you can't list your dislikes, but I'd be less considerate about them in a rec (just listing them, really) than in a review for the author (I'd probably provide examples and canon references to support my opinion on OOC characters in a review, rather than stating plainly "I think the characters were OOC" in a rec).

Same information, different approach...

Are you talking about a recommendation or a comment?

I'd put concrit into a comment only when asked. A private message is a good option too. Sometimes if I really love a story but there is something that bugs me about it, I put it into my review too - among other things and keeping in mind that a lot of these things are a matter of taste.

When recommending a story elsewhere (also if the writer can see my rec), I point out all the reasons to read it as well as my personal warnings like OOC or poor grammar. Some people won't mind a bit of OOC, others will rush to read the story since it's SO good despite its shortcomings... You provide information and people decide what to do with it.

I think you're fine either way as long as you come across as a friendly person sharing your opinion.

Spill it, ladies. Why is it a fitting name? There must have been more cynical people around since Diogenes. All I know about him is that he was living in a barrel and went looking for humans with a lantern in broad daylight.

It took me about half a year to get over David's regeneration and I've seen Matt's just a few days ago, so you can do the math

I'm not doubting anything either, I know that children pick up on languages instantly. It's just that there's no low-maintanence languages. You need to have a reason to use even the easiest languages frequently or they'll wither and die in your head.

Both my daughter and I speak three languages, none of them as sophisticated as Mandarin, and I notice all the time that the day on this planet is way too short to flex all three of them properly on any kind of a regular basis. But I do try. It's more difficult with my kid because it's hard to find a legit (in the eyes of a 9 yo) reason to pick up a book in the least favorite language when there are so many others available.

Multilingual people say you need three good reasons to learn a language and keep it. Like living in its country, having a loved one who speaks it, or becoming fascinated with the associated culture. I just don't see what reasons Scottish children have to keep investing time in Mandarin when they are a little older.

Children can learn any language but they need a good reason to stick with it. Same holds true for adults. China is too far away for Mandarin to be cool and/or relevant for the majority of Scottish children.
