Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

Yes, indeed... I wonder how the Dvds will look like...

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

You mean paintings instead of photographs?  They always used photos for the previous DVD/Blu-Ray covers.

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

Yes, that's why I'm surprised and I wonder if the dvds will be paintings as well for this season.

*nod furiously* Did they not credit the artist responsible for the blu-ray cover box ?

Her Study in Pink used to be my desktop for quite a while *fond memories*

Since she's got a "BBC Licensed" folder on her dA, I suppose they commissioned her to do the cover.

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

I just read on Sherlockology's twitter feed that The Doctor Who S9 Steelbook by Alice X. Zhang was an UK Amazon exclusive, that there was no international version and that it sold out. Apparently it can change hands for £200+

Therefore I imagine the Sherlock S4 steelbook will be quite a collector's item!

I have nothing to play a Blu-Ray on but I've just pre-ordered the UK Steelbook.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

We'll see.  It's hard to know exactly the context of what he's saying too.  I can imagine that it's getting more and more difficult to pull it all together.

Of course, I would love to see another series, but I do like the hints that it's not going to end on a cliffhanger - that if it turns out there aren't any more, this will feel like a fitting ending.

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

I guess they all know that they can't really guarantee a fifth season, so they've made provisions in the story line of The Final Problem for it to be a good ending if it has to be the end...

I like this article, it gives me more hope:

Here’s what we think we know for sure: After giving fans cliffhanger endings in the last couple of seasons, the upcoming fourth round of Sherlock will feel at least somewhat conclusive by comparison. Season 4 is not planned, however, to serve as the final episodes … but it could be.

The final season worries first started a couple months back when star Benedict Cumberbatch was quoted as saying the show might end with season 4, which debuts Jan. 1 on PBS Masterpiece.

“It might be the end of an era,” he was quoted as saying. “It feels like the end of an era, to be honest. [Season 4] goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately. We never say never on the show. I’d love to revisit it, I’d love to keep revisiting it, I stand by that. But in the immediate future, we all have things that we want to crack on with and we’ve made something very complete as it is, so I think we’ll just wait and see. The idea of never playing him again is really galling.”

But now showrunner Steven Moffat tells EW the Doctor Strange star was misquoted. “This is really worth saying because it’s getting exhausting for us all,” Moffat says. “That’s not what Benedict said. That’s what someone edited his words into the meaning of. It seems to be impossible these days not to be misquoted. He was quite specific about being keen to carry on. He went on to say he’s hard to get us all together. We want to keep the quality up. We haven’t even seen this [season air] yet. We don’t know. We haven’t sat down with the intent to anything yet. But we’re always aware that it could be over. But the fact is Benedict did not say that.”

So it would seem the Case of the Fourth and Final Season is now firmly closed.

But … as we were writing this post, another Sherlock interview popped up in our newsfeed, this one quoting star Martin Freeman hinting that season 4 could serve as the final round (and in a radio interview so we checked to make sure outlets were quoting him correctly).

“Life does sometimes have a way of telling you, ‘This is probably it now,’” Freeman told Jim Norton & Sam Roberts when asked when Sherlock would end. “This last [season] did have a feeling of – I don’t know whether it has a finality to it – but it certainly had a feeling of a pause. It definitely had a feeling of that. And I am never ever afraid of things ending. I mean I am not looking forward to life ending or love ending, but things that we make should end.”

If we had to bet, we’d say another season is more likely than not – once the stars warm up to the idea of shooting some more episodes … but we suspect we’ll be waiting at least a couple years. Ultimately, Sherlock’s future is a currently unsolvable mystery, something that Holmes would appreciate.

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

I guess this new interview with Mark Gatiss will spark the "no more Sherlock" rumours again, even though he actually doesn't say anything that hasn't been said before (scheduling difficulties, and that after season 4 it wouldn't feel like the show was abandoned unfinished, and other creators will come up with their versions of Sherlock Holmes anyway).

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

Yesterday, I particularly felt for the fandom.
As some of you know, I get google alerts for Benedict.
Yesterday the offering gave me two opposite stories!
One based around Steven hinting that S 5 could follow the Dracula project.
The other was this Mark story...
I mean really: click bait or what?
I just refuse to read these stories now!

To be fair I think the press have been pushing these stories since S 1.

Re: These "series 4 is the last" rumours

Are people actually still hoping there will be a Series 5? Don't set yourself up for (even more) heartbreak my friends...
Short of kidnapping and forcing the writers to put together a new series I don't see how this can happen in the near future. They don't want to do what's already been done many times over, i.e . 'regular' adventures with middle-aged H&W so unless by some miracle they can think of another twist to the tale this is pure wishful thinking.
