Hi everyone,

for this year's Secret Santa fic exchange, we'll be posting fanfic directly here on the boards.

The question has arisen whether it is possible to automatically convert the formatting in a Word.doc (such as bold type, italics etc.) into our forum code (with the [ ] brackets), rather than having to go through all the fics and do it by hand.

Does anyone know whether that is possible, and if yes, how it works?

This should also work but I guess it needs more software skills. Advantage here is that you teach your WORD software to do the converting.

Option 1 might produce somewhat odd results, though. One has to give it a try...

OK, just trying it out here with the two-step option (Word to html to BBcode):

SHERLOCK (gesturing to his own left cheek): Punch me in the face.
JOHN: Punch you?
SHERLOCK: Yes. Punch me, in the face. (He gestures to his left cheek again.) Didn’t you hear me?
JOHN: I always hear ‘punch me in the face’ when you’re speaking, but it’s usually sub-text.
SHERLOCK (exasperated): Oh, for God’s sake.
He punches John in the face.

Yup, looks like the italics all came through! Lovely! Case solved.
