I mean if the snipers were never an issue (Mycroft dealt with it), then why didn't he just let him deal with the snipers and walk down the building. Some people say he did it to go undercover but is everyone in England seriously relying on John for this? I mean nobody but John even saw him and I know he is his blogger but I still don't get it

I think the point may have been that it made great television and left us madly theorizing for two years.

Coz he needed to take down Moriarty's "network". It's more convenient if he's "dead" & he can infiltrate Jim's associates.

I think that's a good question from a technical and analytical standpoint. The technical reason why Sherlock went through with it might have been an excuse just to incorperate the scene, and that makes me wonder about the significance of the scene. It was very emotional and exposed a lot about their relationship, but that was kind of negated when we saw the death was staged. Whether it was designed to send us reeling into theories, idk. I didn't spend too much time doing that as there are prently of creative and reasonable explanations for what happened. What I got out of that scene was the feeling of empathy for both characters in that moment. I dare say I might have even been satisfied if Sherlock had ended there.

Because it's canon.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John: "Have you spoken to Mycroft, Molly, uh, anyone?"
Mrs Hudson: "They don’t matter. You do."

I BELIEVE IN SERIES 5!
