Well, I think it fits the story which is full of blood and murder and war quite well.

Well, that's Richard III. It totally fits the role. And it makes me feel the energy, so I think it's perfect.

edit: Susi, you were faster.

The two of you are probably right. I'll get used to it. I'm just not toooo much into slaughter and blood splattering, I prefer suspense and a bit good cold blooded horror as well but insides out? Na.

Oh, I'm sure you'll get a lot of suspense and also horror... it's not just blood and slaughter, not at all.

I love the poster!  It visually telegraphs the contextual power and the violence that is an integral part of the material of play and an essential componant for anyone portraying the role of RIII.

He looks positively sanguinary in that picture!!   Takes my breath away!

It's not really Shakespeare until everyone is dead...

Yes, I would love to see him in a comedy as well. Benedick, maybe? Or The Taming of the Shrew?

Benedick would be great, but I'm afraid I couldn't help myself and would compare him to David Tennant the whole time...

While I would compare him to Kenneth Branagh.

Yes, well, there was a time when I would have compared him to Branagh, too.

I thought of KB too. Had to look up the David Tennant version. Looks... interesting!

It definitely is. And it's probably difficult to compare Tennant and Branagh, one has been done on stage, the other on film. But I guess it's only human to always try and make comparisons in order to make sense of things. And it's fun, too.

I think I could watch Benedict as Benedick without comparing him to Branagh. They are very different in many respects.
(But when watching The Hollow Crown I simply could not switch off my inner Branagh and kept comparing him and Tom Hiddleston. The impression Branagh made on me as Henry was simply too strong. )

With me it just happens, if only on a subconscious level. When I watched "Hamlet" with David I wasn't thinking 'Okay, let's see how he's different to Branagh's Hamlet', but I just ended up noticing differences and things I liked better or less. Same happened with "Much ado about nothing".
I'm sure though that when I see Benedict as Hamlet all I'll be able to think about is... well, him. At least during the first night.

Ahem, yes. I guess I will not think much about the director's choice or the lighting or the impressive stage design either.
