I got an email (valid link, not from the random advertiser spam) from amazon (coz I'm on their mailing list):

The entry requirements include criteria:

Entrants may not be a national or legal permanent resident of any of the following countries: Burma, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria.

I know they do it for legal reasons but is the rest of the world that paranoid about contact with above mentioned countries? If the citizens of any nation deserve a chance to win $50 000, it's those six.

It's the first time I've seen it spelled out like this, where a major corporation is saying "let's do business"; "But, if your bosses don't agree with our bosses, you can go get screwed"

It may not be a political thing (I'll admit I didn't read the link). It may simply be that Amazon is unable to run the contest in those countries, or is unable to provide the prize(s) in those countries due to the laws there.

I dislike being outnumbered. It makes for too much stupid in the room
