BBC IPlayer access in other countries

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

As Series 3 (aka New Years Day) approaches,  it will be difficult
to stand it if we forum-ites can't all watch the shows,  when
they are first aired,  regardless of location.

What I'm saying is I don't intend to wait until Jan. 19th for
the U.S. showing on PBS Masterpiece.  1)  too long a wait
2)  they may cut scenes like last time   3) I don't really
want to stay away from this forum,  all of twitter and other
sites,  till the end of January...

Has anyone in non-European locations been able to successfully access
the BBC iplayer?    I realize ex-pats can legitimately use a proxy vpn service
to spoof a British ip address,  thereby getting around the access
issue.   There are so many of them out there though,  and I don't want to
stumble on one that is disreputable,  and infect my computer.

Any suggestions?   Strategies?

Can anyone non.British use that? Asking as a European who has to wait for a few days later, an eternity, before my country airs Sherlock?

Is it nice not being me? It must be so relaxing.

Maybe you could download Tunnelbear. There you can choose "your" country, for example UK.....it´s limited for 500 MB per month. You could get more it you click at the Twitter Add Button. Functions well for me in Europe and was a hint from a US Sherlockian. As I am in the States on Jan 1st, I really hope that it will be o.k.!
(Btw.....in which TimeZone do you live? I´ll be in Nevada so Sherlocj should be shown at 13:00 I guess?!)

I'm in GMT+1 or UST+1, whichever you prefer, one hour ahead of the UK so time should be okay.

Yep anyone can use it, apparently. I haven't actually tried it yet, but it lets you stream UK TV from anywhere, so I'm told. I think it also has US TV as well.
