Yeah there are some on Tumblr that are talking about writing fics that either include or exclude all these cliches

Now that we've cleared up the Omegaverse stuff, would anyone like to attempt to explain Tentacle Porn?

Celebrating Post #900!  If the government shutdown continues I should make 1000 by next weekend!

Read the word "tentacles" first time yesterday, while searching for a new fic.
I clicked away as quickly as I could...

I was already wondering about that octopus thing … Not sure if I want to know more though.

I've seen some fan art for that tentacle thing on tumblr.  Not interested.

Britta, your new sig is so cute!

Just wondering if anyone knew how it came about.  Seems awfully strange even in the world of fan fic.

You excited my interest so I went to AO3 and I wish I haven't done that...ugh...
To answer your question tonnaree I'll quote wikipedia: "Tentacle erotica describes a type of pornography most commonly found in Japan. It integrates elements of traditional pornography with horror or science-fiction themes.Tentacle rape is found in some horror or hentai titles, with tentacled creatures (usually fictional monsters) having sexual intercourse with female characters." One of the first illustrations is from 1814.

Thanks, I like yours, too. (Both sides, btw.  )

Good that I decided not to read a word of tentacle/octopus/whatever. No thanks.

Urrghh! There is fanfiction of this stuff? I only saw some (fortunately harmless) fanart so far. But I am always careful about AU stories. Vampires, werewolfs, mermaids... no, defenitely not my cup of tea.

There is one form of tentacle porn I might consider. Octo!John.
At least manna's version is so cute, and she even have some slightly porny pics that I think are good. But in general I'll pass too.

I just read Alone on the Water.  I'd been putting it off becuase I'd seen so many recommendations and reactions that I could only think "My expectations are now too high.  I'll just be disappointed."

It was eloquent and lovely and devastating.  Wow. I'm as much the opposite of disappointed as possible.

Again, thanks to this fan community for the recommendations and to all the authors like MadLori who put their hearts into creating these stories to share.  I'm going to go hug some people and tell them that I love them.

Ah, well, 'Alone on the water' ... .
Please, don't get me wrong. It is a beautiful written story and I admire the talent of all writers, who are able to create beautiful words. I don't criticize the story for anything.
But I just don't like those kind of stories. I am glad for every author, who give a warning about character death in the introduction. I avoid those stories, because it always makes me cry, reading about John or Sherlocks death. It might be superficial, but I need a happy end - real life is cruel enough.
I don't mind h/c in general, a harmless sick fic or even some torture scence, as long as it's not too heavy, but no, no, no death of the boys.

"Alone on the Water" is the ONLY major character death fic I have read.  Like you, it doesn't matter how well written it is I just can't go there most of the time.

And I do believe I'll put tentacle porn on my list of things I don't need to know anything else about.
*shudder*

I can totally understand when people say they need a happy ending to a story or a film or whatever.
For me it always depends on how well-written a story is, because what I really don't like is a cheesy happy end. You have that in so many movies, I just can't stand it. If the author makes the happy end believable, then that's fine with me.
But a well-written unhappy ending... for me there's nothing better. I know, it might sound weird, but nothing touches and enriches me more than a good, good unhappy ending.
