John: "He means 'thank you'." - Sherlock: "Do I?" - John: "Just say it." - Sherlock: "...thank you."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John: "Have you spoken to Mycroft, Molly, uh, anyone?"
Mrs Hudson: "They don’t matter. You do."

I BELIEVE IN SERIES 5!

Lovely!

Dean - "I'm not happy about it. But I got to move on. So I'm gonna keep doing what we do...while I still can. And I'd like you to be there with me."

Sam - "I'm your brother, Dean, if you ever need to talk about anything with anybody, you got someone right here next to you."

Is it just me or is Martin wicked handsome in this pic?

Look how young they were! This was the beginning of TRF, right?  So filmed maybe 3 years ago? 4? They look like their own younger brothers here.

He's a  nice-looking man, for sure. And in perfect contrast to Ben's upper crust patrician face, Martin looks more like Everyman, a working bloke, smart as a whip but not to the manor born. The BBC people who cast the two of them are genuises. Physical and emotional chemistry, both. Couldn't miss.

I certainly agree the casting was a piece of inspired genius.
Who ever would have thought to put those two together?
Yet they are absolutely made for each other,.
I remember on the commentary Steven saying of the 1st time the boys were in costume and standing side by side. He took one look at them and said: well, there's our TV show then.

That's what casting agents/directors do, of course. It's their business to be informed about the direction the writers and executive producers want to take a film or TV series, along with a full description of the characters, and then go out and find the right actors. In Sherlock's case, TPTB wanted Ben right from the get-go, from what I understand. From first conception, he was THEIR Sherlock. But someone in charge of casting then found Martin, and it was a lock. Makes me want to squeeee. In fact, I think I will SQUEEEEE!

SQUEEEE!!!

I guess the thing casting directors can't tell is the chemistry between the actors. Yes they might look perfect for the role but if they don't click it shows on screen.
Didn't Benedict say something like Martin made him lift his game once they'd auditioned together. It just fell perfectly into place.

I believe that's part of the casting process, to have a Martin Freeman come in and read his part with his Ben Cumberbatch, while the writers and producers watch and listen and perhaps film it. Later on, everyone gets an opportunity to give feedback about what they saw during the reading, what they think the pairing's potential is-- they would have certainly asked Ben as well. And if it fits like a glove from the beginning, it's not a stretch to believe it will fit like a glove once they're in costume, on set, and playing the game for real. It's a bee-yoo-tee-full thing to see!

Reichenbach, just before the trial...

I love that scene but at the same time it saddens me.

And even better than that, upstairs in the livingroom at 221B, getting ready, and Sherlock looking over at John. OMG, makes me thud every single solitary time I watch that.

Until I started watching Sherlock...I never EVER used to SQUEE quite as much as I do now , now whenever I think of the utter genius of the show, the genius of the casting, the genius of...everything about it, I'm all squeals!  Yep, hopelessly enraptured I am...
