The Baker Street Journal continues to be the leading Sherlockian publication since its founding in 1946 by Edgar W. Smith. With both serious scholarship and articles that "play the game," the Journal is essential reading for anyone interested in Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and a world where it is always 1895.

I can't stress enough how essential the Baker Street Journal is - both historically as well in terms of "keeping the memory green". Even if your primary interest is BBC Sherlock and you've only just recently began dipping a toe into the canon, you'll find discussion of the BBC adaptation in almost every issue that's come out in the last year or two.

As a subscriber, there's almost nothing as exciting as seeing the newest BSJ in my mailbox four times a year (plus their annual Christmas Annual issue).

Check out the website mentioned above for free example articles. Becoming a regular reader of the BSJ can be an excellent 'next step' into a larger Sherlockian world.

.. always fantastic to re-read, e.g., about Holmes’ ability to act:
