His manner of thinking deductive,

Could he be Goodness me a detective?

Re: How long have you been a fan?

My dad has always been a massive Sherlock Holmes fan, ever since he was a kid. Massive. Movies, shows, books etc. Books about the movies, shows and books... lol I never cared a lick and to be honest I've never been interested in detective stories (dont hate me!)...

I've also never been a fan of science fiction, but my dad is also a huge fan of Dr. Who. I ended up watching it with him off and on (particularly David Tennet's seasons) and really liked it. I guess this made my dad think I might like Sherlock so he asked if I wanted to watch the first episode with him when it first came out. It was brilliant, I was hooked, the rest is history I can appreciate the original stories I guess but I don't think I would (or that I would even know much about it) if I hadn't seen this series.

On one hand, that makes me a bad Sherlock Holmes fan, doesn't it? ha On the other hand, it really speaks as a testament to the fact that new generations and fans will continue to crop up, even after all these years, which is rather impressive in its timelessness. I'm only 24. And I like Sherlock Holmes. Come on, its impressive!

No such thing as a bad Sherlock Holmes fan, except Moriarty, of course.

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I thot I'd posted in here already--just found this thread today.   Back in High school I did a book report on the hound of the baskervilles.   This was before the jeremy Brett series started.   I  got a B plus  on it.  I  just remember that funnily enuf.   Then I lost interest,  and then   in  1996  I found the JB series  thru PBS,  and then read the canon stories.  then I lost interest again.  then in 2010  came BBC's Sherlock...I've been unlost ever since.  This BBC sherlock   got me interested in reading the canon stories again.   I'm still hooked,  and I love coming here.

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I have been a fan for about 30 years. I used to watch alot of old films with my Mum and Grandad and read the Ladybird version of Hound of the Baskervilles. I was hooked. My daughter is 6 and has watched all the new ones over and over, it used to be Harry Potter and LOTR but she is hooked on Sherlock too now. I expect a few of you have seen her on Youtube? She is Lyra the Cumberbatch fan

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I've been a fan for only ....half a year or so. I've watched the first R. Downey J. movie on DVD, liked it, and went to the cinema to watch the second movie.
So after this I discovered BBC Sherlock and instantly fell in love, bought the Blu Rays, then read the books and rewatched the series....
Well, and now I'm just in love with Sherlock and wish I'd discovered it earlier!

Re: How long have you been a fan?

It's never too late, Chrissi. I have a similar "Sherlock career" although I read the all the canon stories when I was about twelve. Now I'm going to rediscover them.

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I think I've mentioned before that I've only become a Sherlockian through "Sherlock". That would be around March 7th (this year) and since then I've taken an interest in the whole Sherlock thing, read some of the canon etc.
I know, my history with Sherlock is not very long. But, as you said, SusiGo, it's never too late!
I'm so glad I've discovered this TV show and that it led me to the whole Sherlock universe.

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I think it's brilliant that the show has invented a whole new army of Sherlockians. I think ACD would be quite surprised to know that Holmes was still going strong.

He's probably turning in his grave thinking how he tried to kill him off at the Reichenbach Falls and that he has still not perished!

Don't make people into heroes John. Heroes don't exist and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.

Re: How long have you been a fan?

Yeah, that is pretty funny. He was always annoyed the way people payed so much attention to SH and his other works went largely ignored. That's why I'm making the effort to read other Conan Doyle stories actually!

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I'm a newish fan.  I watched Series 1 on Netflix probably a little over a year ago and badgered encouraged a few friends to watch as well because I thought it was so well written and acted.

I watched Series 2 as it aired more or less.  Strange thing is after watching Series 1, I wasn't that particularly "into" Benedict Cumberbatch.  He was interesting looking to me, but that was all.  Series 2 changed all that in a BIG way.  I'm not sure if it was because we got to see him in a more romantic light in ASiB or what, but now I'm borderline being one of those scary fans!

Re: How long have you been a fan?

I had almost the same experience! I loved the series starting about when the "Wrong!" texts showed up in the first episode, but wasn't into Sherlock/Ben until season 2. You're right, it may have been something about Irene romancing him.

By the way, hope you have seen the DVDs of Season 2 (not on Netflix yet, I think), as the PBS versions were slightly edited.

I have seen the unedited versions on DVD.  I just wish they had had time to do commentary on The Reichenbach Fall episode...would have LOVED to have heard that!

Sherlock Holmes wrote:

Have you read the original books or seen any of the old movies/TV series, or are you a new Sherlockian convert?

I have read some Sherlock Holmes original stories when i was younger but i can't remember what books exactly it's been a long time ago now. I'm not a big specialist or an inconditionnal fan of this character but over the years i always love watching movies or TV adaptations even cartoons ! As a child i was a big fan of  "Sherlock Hound" (an italian and japanese TV cartoon, Hayao Miyazaki was one of the director of the show).

For the BBC today version well i'm a fan since the serie one was broadcast in 2010.
