I'm going by "it's never twins" is just the sort of thing they would say to throw us off.
And you'd be amazed what they can hide; Even though most of us guessed that TAB would take place in Sherlock's MP, there were no setlock leaks that proved they filmed any modern scenes except for that one shot of John and Mary in the graveyard.

I don't know where I stand on Moriarty being alive... but none the less... Andrew looks amazing!
If this is a major spoiler, as I assume Moriarty being alive would be... would we be seeing these pictures at all?

I agree about "It's never twins", Tonnaree. Ever since I heard that (while Sherlock kind of bumbles through the case, and fails to notice things in his mind palace), I've thought there are going to be twins at some point!
Maybe that outdoor shot was too difficult to hide. I wonder if they're relying on us thinking everything is mind palace to hide something that's really happening? Or if it's the other way round? I don't think Moriarty's appearance itself is a big surprise as both HLV and TAB led into it - the still unresolved cliffhanger at the end of HLV, and Sherlock knowing what he's going to do next at the end of TAB.
I have mixed feelings too - happy to see Andrew, but not happy if he's alive ... and I've actually been ready for a new villain, rather than the whole show being about Moriarty. And I think we've had so much mind palace Moriarty now, that it has almost overshadowed the real Moriarty. Still, I suppose it would fit wth the comment about this being the story they've been telling from the beginning.

I would actually be very surprised if Moriarty didn't turn out to be alive - or had made some plans for what his minions were to do post-death to muck it up for Sherlock. Moriarty is Sherlock's nemesis, and a nemesis never die midway through the story. The rooftop showdown was only the middle of their story and confrontation, I think.

I think I would prefer if Moriarty's minions were still running the show, according to his plans... and have Moriarty 'haunt' Sherlock's mindpalace...
But I guess Moriarty faking his own death would mirror Sherlock...
but yeah...
Oh, and anyone else who has the official calendar take this month's theme as a funny coincidence today?

That would make him much more important than in canon, I think. But Moftiss do LOVE Moriarty (I can't remember the exact words but they describe him as the perfect villain) and love Andrew's portrayal. And he's a villain who is connected to Sherlock right from childhood, through Carl Powers, which gives him something that the others don't have. I'm sure they would love to bring him back.

Haha, Liberty: we cross posted!
Since the beginning my conflict has been between them wanting to keep canonical( Moriarty is hardly around and then very soon and definitely dies) and their words ringing in my ears: every other villain is just a pale shadow compared to the master Moriarty.
For me, he simply steals every scene, his TV presence is so powerful and completely mesmerising.

It seems to me that Moftiss have never been particularly bothered with sticking to canon. They take inspiration from canon and twist and turn it in whatever way suits them (which is basically what we do when we write fanfiction - didn't Moffat say BBC Sherlock was his fanfiction?).

They have all seemed very firm on the point that Moriarty is dead...or is that just a concept/a name?

Well the man could live on... He could become Richard Brook again... who knows...
I still prefer him as a ghost mind palace memory thing

I prefer him as being the still living Moriarty...but this would only really be acceptable if it was done in a very clever way. And again, how many fake deaths can one show have?

my point exactly...

It's twins, I tell you!
Sherlock has "died" a couple of times but bounced back very quickly, in the same episode. As did Irene, both times in one episode. Moriarty has stayed dead much longer. I don't know if that means anything.
Actually, about the only way it seems to work is Mycroft being in on it. Sherlock didn't check Moriarty's body, but you'd assume, after planning Sherlock's "suicide", Mycroft would check that the equally clever Moriarty was actually dead. If there wasn't a body to check, then he was clearly alive. How could Mycroft slip up unless he meant to? Maybe the fake handshake was part of a bigger plan!
But still, he's clearly still lurking in Sherlock's mind, and not just in TAB, but in HLV too. So it could easily be mind palace. I'm just thinking those scenes don't scream mind palace at me - apart from the fact of him like such a cliche of a villain (I don't mean that in a bad way!).

Interesting to see Louise in costume together with Andrew. So she was filming after all, not just visiting. Wearing a jumper she had in TEH.
Offline
I really didn't see how she would just be visiting.
Molly's not back with Jim, is she?!
Offline
The idea came up before she was photographed in costume. Well, she could be associated with him. Big rug pull.

*sticks her fingers in her ears and sings* "Molly is good... Molly is innocent..."

She could be being manipulated...again.
Offline
I do not think that would happen again. She has clearly evolved since TGG.

She definitely got a lot more badass and stronger... but... I know Sherlock has been cruel to her, but would she turn on him??? Maybe Sherlock uses her as a mole?
