I won't watch it. As long as I don't see it on the tv news it's not true....

Oh, dear ... take your time
(He taught Potions, and Defense against the Dark Arts, didn't he?)

Not only was he a brilliant actor, but from the way his friends describe him, he was a great man as well. I was lucky to see him on stage twice, he was magnificent!

Yes, he was first and foremost the Potions teacher, but always wanted to teach Dark Arts. He got his wish fulfilled in Harry Potter's sixth year.

When I get home later tonight and have more time I will have to tell you all how I got to meet Alan briefly one day.

Dark Arts as Subject in modern times Hogwarts? Only with Death Eater Amycus Carrow in seventh year.
Snape taught Defence against the Dark Arts, until he died.
(Maybe my edit crossed your post, but it's still not Dark Arts.)

Yes, I just shortened it to Dark Arts. He was the Headmaster in the last year, so not sure if he worked as a teacher as well.

After I was so brave and went to London last year (despite my great fear of flying) to see Benedict on stage I really was hoping I would see Alan on stage one day....

*hugs Mattlocked* and everyone else who are having a hard time right now.
Mattlocked, you sound just like me when Michael Jackson died. I was a mess.

This has been one sad week and I couldn't believe he was 69!

This is so so sad.
I loved him since Kevin Kostners " Robin Hood", he just blew me away at first sight.
I remember how happy I was when he got casted as Snape. It couldn't be anybody else, that much was clear from the first promo pics.
I'm just watching " Galaxy Quest" with the kids. That's a bit of nice distraction.
My oldest is currently in Canada, she's absolutely devastated.

Woke up pretty late and didn't get to computer right away… pretty much first thing I see when I do are people posting the headlines about that and basically just exclaimed 'what the hell?!?' Then instantly thought of all you guys, too, and sharing in the hugs. Also 69, and cancer. This sucks. Loved him in Dogma, Robin Hood, and Love Actually! And you guys are right, really did sound like an awesome guy…….
