Gosh, people really do pore over this stuff!
Just possibly, Mary has given up her assassin career.
Personally, I think she had anyway, until CAM raised his ugly head...

So, why does she still have her assassin outfit and gun and silencer and building scaling equipment?

I dunno, maybe Mycroft provided them!

Not sure about that one...

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

No, neither am I.
But the possibility of Mary working for Mycroft stands up well, compared to some of the 'out there' theories I've seen on here!

Sure. It changes John's characterization. He's now someone who Sherlock certainly cannot call a friend, and cannot trust. Unless he decides that enough is enough and turns her in. If he doesn't, and Sherlock's shooting is *truly*  "okay" with him-- then he doesn't deserve to have Sherlock as a friend, much less a lover as per Johnlock.

That's why personally, I am hoping for a faked reconciliation or EMP. I want my old John back. :-(

I still believe that love conquers all!

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

That could be possibly taken as a very poor opinion of John and I really don't know why he deserves that.
He's never stopped loving Sherlock and now he loves Mary, too.
Happens to many men when they age, get married and start a family.

But, he (according to your hypothesis) loves Mary more. He loves Mary enough to forgive Mary shooting and mortally wounding Sherlock. This is different than just growing up and finding a wife and starting a family. This is siding with the woman who fatally shot your best friend. Who lied to you about who she was from the beginning. And now, you're perverting the cause of justice, harboring a fugitive, committing treason (very likely) , obstructing justice, etc, etc, .

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

But Sherlock, John and Mary are all in this together and all seem happy with the outcome.
Obviously Sherlock misses John, but he accepts his little helper has needs that he cannot meet.

Well, poor Sherlock, then. He's worth more than that. He needs a love of his own, someone that will put him first, for once.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Well, we can't always get what we want and I'm fairly certain Sherlock found that out very early in life.
I really don't think he wants a relationship with anybody.

Not even John?

No.
Sherlock loves him, but not that way.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

John would kill for Sherlock, but this doesn't stop him loving Mary.
If Sherlock loves John that way, why the heck didn't he just ask him out?
If the team were making an episode about love, why choose Irene?

You're asking why "The Virgin" didn't simply ask John out on a date? Isn't that John "3 Continents" Watson's purview?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

No, it's an asexual Sherlock, or 'not into men' view...

But that's a headcanon-- not necessarily actual canon.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Johnlock falls into the same category.
I actually think Sherlock being attracted to Irene is BBC Canon.
