Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

This is an amazing find! They are such trolls and they have told us that they know every adaptation under the sun. The universe and all that … And have a look at the debate, I am going to post something similar over there.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Possibly onto something.
The only problem is the dvd commentary.
Mark specifically says that scene was only made because the run time was too short.
Martin and Amanda were available, so they just made a filler scene.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Yes, but they could have made anything else as well. Or used one of the existing blog entries with John's or Mary's log-in name both of which we know.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

The showrunners probably used the same graphic they designed for the scene in SiB and just changed the main text

This shows "logged in as Watson" doesn't it?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Fair enough....
I just thought they had Amanda reading that particular entry because it's classic Sherlock Holmes...sounds great.

Plus it's a very good example of John's hero-worshipping/adoration of Sherlock, which Mary is ribbing him about. Pity they didn't add the entry to John's blog for us to read.

Susi found this in a German Magazine and our user tykobrian translated the whole thing.

Wow, interesting article!

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Hmmmm......
Have we had this one?
I know we already mentioned the suspicious silence and absence from Mycroft in HLV, but....

It certainly was one of the big mysteries of HLV!

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Wow, I really had no idea that her character has the power of almost break the fandom in two parts. That seems very odd to me. I really don't like her that much myself, I was quite confused by her taking that huge part in series 3 because I just couldn't understand the fascination of her and I didn't want her to become a main character and change the friendship of Sherlock and John and all but in the special, she really didn't come across as a big and important part to me. I loved the two or three funny parts she was bringing in as they were highly welcome in this dark episode, but apart from that she of course had to be a part of it, as she's married to John, but as a strong woman with her own story she of course can't just stay at home and wait for him to step by from time to time. So her part of the story seemed to be only natural to me. I still don't want her (or anyone by that matter!) become more important than she already is, but at the moment everything seems to be ok for me.

Is there something I'm missing about it?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

There are many reasons Mary is a divisive character in the fandom.  It actually started before they even filmed S3.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

That's really weird, but thank you. I first thought it was mainly the reasons why I didn't like her first (dislike of her storyline etc.) - and of course Johnlock.
As I am absolutely no fan of Johnlock (I like the little allusions to it in the series, but I don't want to think about it as a real or serious thing), so it's just a wild guess: Has the dislike of her anything to do with Johnlock? Is it that people don't want to be around because she's standing in between Sherlock and John?

Sorry for maybe being stupid, but I read the comments in the Abominable Bride-section and got confused by the high emotionality there, so I just had to ask where that comes from.

In my case, I started disliking Mary when she shot Sherlock! :-)

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Many people like to accuse people of hating Mary just because of Johnlock.

Now, I am a hard core Johnlocker.  In case you hadn't noticed.    However, I do not hate the character of Mary.  I like the character of Mary as a great villain.  The villain I believe she was reveled to be in HLV.  My wish is S4 is for her to become even more a villian and to bring the boys closer together than ever in working to defeat her.

What I don't want is for them to turn Mary around into a good person again.  After shooting Sherlock I can't go back and accept her as John's loving wife who occasionally helps out the boys.
