Hmm! This could be significant Dr. Watson.

I've just had an epiphany... as Kazza pointed out, John healed himself... ergo... he is a Time Lord. He can regenerate. Can't you see? He is THE DOCTOR!!

No,  the tea cups---when  Sherlock  put them both down  on the tray,  I  could clearly see the INSIDE  of them.   ONE  of them  had  the crown inside of   it,  but the other one did NOT.   Guess which one Moriarty drank out of?

I understand what you're saying but not convinced. I think its just the camera angle to be honest. The cup has the same shape, same decorations around the rim, handle & most importantly the same tiny insignia on the back at the very bottom.
The rest of the tea set is a complete one so I tend to believe Sherlock wouldn't have something as shoddy as an odd cup to the collection.
But well spotted.

Mycroft’s popularity doesn’t surprise me at all. He is, after all, incredibly beautiful, clever and well-dressed. And beautiful. Did I mention that?

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

Well, I'm brand new here (first message!) and to the show and just finished catching up on all the episodes yesterday. I've been reading here and there about some of the theories, but not sure what I think yet. I've only watched the whole final episode once, but have rewatched the jump scene several times and am stumped. One question I have that I haven't seen addressed, even though I admit I have lots more reading to do, is if there was a net or something to catch him, why don't we see that when we see the impact? John may not see the moment of impact, but we sure do and it looks to me like he hit the ground. We also don't see anyone around him that would need to be there holding the net. Has this been explained?

I've enjoyed reading this thread and everyone's thoughts!

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

Well,  when JOHN  was knocked out,  we  the audience were knocked out too!!

Backtrack a little bit--remember when John finally showed up at the lab where sherlock was playing with his little ball?  That was after  he'd spoken to Molly.   Could something have been done to sherlock during that time lapse?

Going ahead---remember when sherlock was on the roof,  and he said it was just a magic trick?  Well,  what  happens in magic,  anyway?   they do  some of it with mirrors,  right?   hmmmmm.

welcome,  katalina!!

Just wondering how Derren Brown might have been helpful.

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

He's a performance magician from Bristol, in the UK, who specialises in psychological play alongside linguistic trickery.

With one notable exception he's a very good sceptic and promotes critical thinking.

Here's one of his live performances:

However if you can get a hold of them, his 'Tricks of the Mind' shows and 'Specials' are mandatory viewing to see everyday manipulation at play from both propaganda and advertising.

thank you m0r!!   I've seen a lot of magicians,  namely david copperfield,  but not heard of this one.  And I've just had another thought.   Random thought.   I  was just reading the subtitles for Hounds of  Baskerville---Tell me something,  did anyone notice FOG  on the day Sherlock jumped?

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

ok  thanks.   I'm  like a dog with a bone.   Moffat said the clue we all missed was inside this episode.  Ok  you remember when Mycroft first summoned John to talk with him,  when he told John abt the assassins living near Baker Street?   Well,  when he was sipping his tea,  he said,   "We don't want a repeat of... 1972."   Soooo--  WHAT  happened in 1972?   I  know  one thing,  but  that had nothing to do with Sherlock's jump.   Any  other thoughts?

Oh Lordy! Now I'm going to have to go and research it!

I would also recommend Derren Brown's latest award winning mini-series The Experiments, very, very interesting.

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

Just got my DVD yesterday, and watched "The Fall", pausing at every possible moment that might contain some clue, hidden meaning, etc. Not sure I gleaned much. However, two matters:

1) Is it possible that there is some familial (i.e., DNA) connection between Sherlock and Moriarty? Sherlock would have discovered this when he analized the apple (we KNOW Sherlock would do this, now don't we?). That relationship could add meaning to the words "I am you", "You are me."

2) When Sherlock confronts Molly in the lab and tells her he thinks he's going to die, he then says something along the lines of, "What if I'm not who you think I am?". Okay, I'm fine with that. But right after that he says, "What if I'm not who I think I am?" What does he mean by that? Has Sherlock realised some suppressed aspects of his past/childhood?

Thoughts appreciated...

Good points, Tantalus. About the first one... it seems to me a bit forced, to be honest. And I can't even imagine... I mean, I think Sherlock and Mycroft have enough with each other, having another ¿brother? or ¿cousin? in Moriarty's skin... well, I can't even think about it. But it could be, why not.

About the second one, that words "what I think I am" have always seemed very important to me. I couldn't say why, maybe it is because it seems quite strange and out of character for Sherlock to even entertain the possibility that he may not be what he thinks he is. I thought America lost a great Sherlock moment when PBS cut that bit. And I think there's more to that words than meets the eye, as I think there's more to the rooftop conversation than we see. So yes, you may have hit a point here. Let's see if anyone else can say something else

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

But he is not necessarily questioning who he is, remember who is talking to, he is talking to Molly and what he says it directed at her for some purpose, because we know Sherlock is like that. Also the fact that these words were cut by (i.e.Sue Vertue) for the PBS airing means they are not vital for the story.

Re: Go on then...what are your theories?

Not sure this is the correct thread for this, but oh well.. : )

If we assume that Sherlock planned to (and in fact did) jump, what was his plan for keeping Moriarty from observing what he actually did to survive the fall? Is it possible that Sherlock's comment to Molly about "not what I think I am" refers to Sherlock's plan to take the law into his own hands and murder Moriarty?
