Maybe he should then stop talking about Sherlock between episodes. I guess he feels "indebted" to Sherlock so keeps satisfying peoples needs to hear about it (and interviewers who know it will sell). But with all the other things he has now done, maybe he could say more often "well, it's not about Sherlock now, let's talk about that other film you're here to hear about". I think he could do that in a honest, easy to understand way without offending someone. The Sherlock fandom has proven it won't run away in the meantime.

Well journalists can ask what they like and celebs can choose to answer or not.
If they do respond, it's up to them how they do so and we can like it or not...

I did not miss that but i also read the whole thing and how she lashed out. And i really think, i really really REALLY think that Mr Cumberbatch would be able to say "pass" or "next question" if he wouldn't have wanted to say something. Yet he did.

From what's printed, it looks like Benedict brought up the subject of fan fiction himself.

I've read about 50 explicit fan fics so far, and I think in only one maybe two of them the size of someone's private parts was briefly mentioned. It doesn't seem to matter that much to writers and readers as it does to Benedict

I don't mean you so much, Harriet, but I've read much worse printed on this subject elsewhere and again it feels like a personal attack on Benedict when the internet takes a humorous comment and extrapolates that he has a thing about the size of his own manhood. He was joking! Is it really because of the Sherlock hiatus? Is he experiencing a sort of fan backlash?

I have no idea how nakakara's post found its way to tumblr and of course there is no rule prohibiting this. But I think for the sake of fairness nobody should post anything from here without asking the member in question for permission. I know that this is an open forum and that any post can be posted or quoted elsewhere but at least members should not do that without asking.
Moreover I would request the members who have mentioned the tumblr discussion to edit their posts accordingly in order to prevent this at least from going further. Thank you very much.

Yeah, I said this in some comment or other a couple of days ago. All he has to do is keep it light, smile and say something like, "Well, it's not my cuppa, so I don't get it, but that's what makes the world an interesting place, so they say. Everyone likes something different," and then go on to the next thing in the conversation/interview. If he did that consistently, I think most of the persistent questions about johnlock would stop. He feeds into the frenzy anytime he starts his usual comments about S and J chained together on a bed floating in outer space and how everyone who writes and reads fic must be about 15, etc.

He makes these silly comments about fic because he hasn't read any of it. Others have told him about johnlock in a general enough way that he's jumped to several erroneous conclusions. Which is fine, I suppose, since eroneous conclusions happen, but OMG, he needs to stop repeating himself..... either get some education about what fan fic is, who writes it and why, who reads it and why, etc, or just STOP talking about it.

Many think all slash fic should be rated adult, and that just because it involves two men or two women having a sexual relationship, casual or otherwise, it must be porny, but as Harriet said, and I agree (she's read 50, I must have read easily 500 slash fics in three different fandoms in the last 10 years, lol, plus written and published 35 of my own in another fandom), slash does not necessarily equal porn. Much of it, especially the stuff that really is written by young people, is very PG-ish, actually.

We don't want him to go all politician non honest answer but pc and polite do we...
BCs opinion on fanfiction is the common one from most people that don't know all that much about it and don't want to either...thats all fine and valid isn't it?
I mean I don't like dr who.....see that actually happens.
