It still amazes me how large and varied the US is. We are such a teeny tiny country in comparison!
Yes, a topic for another thread. *smile* We are huge in population as well. Makes me laugh, when people talk about "Americans this" and "Americans that", as though they could pigeonhole us and have us all figured out; we are as varied as you can imagine-- a true melting pot. And geographically, yeah, massively huge and amazingly divergent. And the weather follows....
But I think all countries are unique and very special unto themselves. Small is good too!!

It sounds absolutely wonderful - despite the weather!
It's on my Bucket list of places to visit
Oh, cool! And the UK is on mine.
But don't plan to come for the fall foliage, because 90% of the time, you'll miss it, won't time your trip right. Unless you consider yourself spectacularly lucky, or have the freedom to spend 3 weeks and wait for it-- but even then, sometimes the weather's not right, and the colors are dull. The classic date for leaf-peeping here is Columbus Day (2nd Monday of Oct) weekend. But you can't make a plan, not a reliable one, to see the pretty leaves... IMO the best month to see this area is probably late May or maybe mid-September. And up in Canada, the best month is probably June or even July (it's 10 degrees F colder up there in the summer than it is here). Prince Edward Island is on my bucket list.

We experienced sideways rain again in Sydney - NOT normal. Scotland can get away with it but in Sydney umbrellas are supposed to work! yes I know I should be grateful that most of the time we do have good weather but I still like to complain, especially as it's Autumn now. Let there be rain (just please send it to the country where they actually need it and not in the city where it doesn't affect our primary source of income).

LOL This sounds like what we say when snow is predicted--- please let it fall up north, on the ski areas where they need it and actually want it, not here, where it does nothing but make trouble.
Speaking of which, there's an actual blizzard (what we call a nor'easter) coming in here tomorrow (Tuesday) evening into Wednesday. It's only supposed to be 5 inches here, but down on Cape Cod, more like a foot of snow, with up to 65 MPH wind gusts. On March 25-26? Please.

Strange!
When I went to the post office to send off my socks for Ben, it was warm and sunny... now I've come home to news that it might snow tonight and there's an icy cold wind blowing from my slightly open window. Brr!

ag - sheesh! Have no idea what you guys got so far, but we were all incredulously joking about our predicted snow as well… and it lightly flurried all day today. Someone, please give us your sun!!

It's been raining fairly consistently for days here and I'm LOVING it. Although if it goes on for more than a week I'll probably stop with the loving ;)

OMG IT'S FREEZING!!!
okay, I count myself lucky we haven't actually got snow in Sydney but still. Freaking cold!!!
AND Orange got snow (which doesn't make any sense unless you're aware that Orange is actually a town in central NSW somewhere)
anyway, Orange is usually not synonymous with snow so yeah, main point being: it's cold downunder here!

Seems ok here!

The weather has turned a bit chilly here in the UK too. But the sun is still shining (for now!).

Here the wind is a bit chilly, but OMG Copenhagen is really showing from it's beautiful side. It makes me proud to show off my country when it looks like that! So sunny, light evenings... Aaaw!

I hope everyone in the wider Cologne/Düsseldorf area is okay. We had a severe storm today with gale force winds. My car is okay and no uprooted trees that I could see, but not everyone was so lucky, as some of these photos from the online newspaper show:

Wow. Do you guys get tornado-type or micro-burst weather there-- you know, with circling winds? This looks like our area after Hurricane Sandy ripped through, back in Oct. 2012. Glad to hear you're okay!

Yes, the weather in Germany was terrible! I heard thunder during the whole night! A tree fell over in my area (I live like 30 minutes away from Cologne/Düsseldorf), but we were fortunately lucky!!

I'm glad you're all okay!

I have to say: I like our neighborhood. It's not exactly tight knit, but this morning people were not only examining the damages on their own houses, they also looked around if someone else needed help. We were really lucky with the direction of the wind, though...it went mostly parallel to the street, so the trees which did fall, ended up in gardens and not on houses. Well, we were also lucky because in our part of the Ruhr area, we still had electricity and all, and no hail either. It was bad enough as it was...I'm just glad that our garden furniture is really heavy, because despite it weight the wind managed to move it around quite a bit (no damage, though).
Yes, neighbors are invaluable in times of crisis, for sure. When Hurricane Sandy ripped through here about 18 months ago, a tree between us and our next door neighbor fell on top of both of our cars. They were not drivable, and we didn't get them back for a month or so, but they came back from the auto body place as good as new. Thank god for insurance-- the damage was about $8000 altogether. Storms are scary, even shocking sometimes, and the devastation they leave behind can be life-changing. Like you, I was just glad the damned tree didn't take out the house, too. Or one of us!

We had this bad storm forecast originally but I guess it scooted past us and took its toll with you folks instead.

It is June! It is not very warm. I am wearing jeans and a long sleeved top! Earlier I was wearing a skirt and short sleeved top and I was bloody freezing! We are not amused!
