Re: Third Star

I watched this for the first time a couple of weeks back on Clare's recommendation and it was everything I hoped it would be.  It's interesting to read the comments here and see what inspiration different people gained from it, and it's a useful reminder to me of my own inspirations and thoughts.

In a way I am lucky - I was young when my grandparents died (suddenly and without great pain), so I do not know what it's like to watch a loved one suffer.  I found myself wondering how I would cope in this situation, either as James or one of his friends.  What would I do a friend finds themselves in James's position? Would I be able to step up and put their wishes before my own.  A film of true loving friendship, which makes me forever grateful for the friends I have in my life

Re: Third Star

I will never get over:
So I raise a morphine toast to you. And, should you remember that it's the anniversary of my birth, remember that you were loved by me and you made my life a happy one. And there's no tragedy in that.

I burst into tears even when I just read it.
It so sad and at the same time so encouraging.

And 'Follow You Down to the Red Oak Tree' right afterwards. The perfect song for the perfect end to a movie.

'We’ve all forgotten that moment where we realise we’ll never play in the World Cup final or… be the first man on Mars. All those daydreams become fantasies rather than possibilities.'

This is one of my favourite, horribly sad quotes.

Re: Third Star

I am eagerly anticipating the arrival of my birthday gift of the DVD of Third Star today.

From everything I have read on here and on other sites, BC delivers a stellar performance.

I'll let you know about my specific reactions and post a few further thoughts on the film after I have a chance to see it.

I am a "weeper" though... so should I buy a new box of tissues???

Re: Third Star

And what ever you do, do not do what I did last time I watched it... and watch it after 'TFIOS'...

Shock blankets and tea are always in order for this film!

Re: Third Star

Thanks for all the advice.  I'll stock up on multiple boxes of tissues today!

BTW :  what does "TFIOS" stand for?  Not familiar with that acronym.

Re: Third Star

Unfortunately not yet.  I don't know if all the bad weather we have had lately delayed the post but the DVD  never arrived in time for this weekend.

I hope it will arrive soon.

I'll post my reaction as soon as I see it.

Hopefully early next week.

Can't wait!

Re: Third Star

I feel asleop with the TV on last night and when I woke up in the wee hours of the morning Third Star was on.  I'd never seen it on Amnerican television before and there it was at 3am.  How random was that.

Re: Third Star

That's very wonderfully strange tonnaree!

Well, my DVD of Third Star finally came today and tonight we are going to watch it.  Getting my boxes of tissues ready and my shock blanket!

I'll let you know how it goes (I also thought I have a bottle of water at the ready in case I get dehydrated because of all the tears).
