I think the 'problem' is that a lot of actors who do conventions very often do little else - just think about Star Trek. A lot of the actors who were in one of the Star Trek series more or less make a living from doing conventions, and sometimes that's really apparent when you're following a panel. Of course they get asked similar questions over and over again over the years, and I guess that a lot of them see conventions more as a business than as a 'service' to the fans.
Benedict is totally new to the whole convention circus, and although I'd reeeaaaally love to see him at a convention, too, at the same time I hope he won't do it on a too regular basis. Because then even he is in danger of repeating himself and getting a bit tired of the questions... it's only human, I guess.

I really don't want to overplay this too much, cos obviously it's not something Benedict even seems to have given a thought to!
But it's just so unusual for him...
We are nearly in the middle of April!
What actual work has Benedict done this year?
Sesame Street, some voice work...
No real acting/filmimg/recording other than these.
JUNE, for 'Z'!
No wonder there were runours about recording Sherlock like now!

No, bb, you are absolutely right.
I really hope he did those conventions and the Laureus and all that because he really wanted to do it and not because he has trouble getting 'real' work - 'real' work for an actor, I mean.

@Solar - I can't see him doing too many cons, and if I'm honest, I hope he doesn't, because it will mean he's becoming a bigger and bigger success as an Actor, but it's great that he's taken part so enthusiastically
@besley - I had worries about his apparent lack of acting work, too, but he himself pulled out of one project and I think he may have made a conscious decision to wait for the right roles to come along.
June isn't that far away now, and if Z is the only Movie he films this year, it'll still probably be a bigger role that his appearances in 12AS, and AOC combined!
I think he's just wanting to make the next move in his career, personally, to bigger roles - but that's just my speculation of course, and probably should be in another thread.

Well , it did seem that he had fun.
As long as it doesn't become a major part of his work ...

Oh no I have no doubt he's being doing all this stuff because he was available to do so and wanted to.
I think there's plenty of work in the offing, I do suspect it's just bureaucracy/clashing schedules that are holding back projects...
I also think he's been using at least some of these trips as holidays...and for his staff too, Karon and Emily are getting a really extended holiday!
Well that's a bit unfair, Karon particulary appears to work extremely hard to support Benedict.
I do also accept this kind of thing IS work for Benedict, it's just a different aspect of his career..

Yes, you´re right, that´s only human. Even Ben shows signs of impatience when he´s asked the same things all over again in interviews.. still I think you should at least try to act professional when you are paid as a speaker, no matter how fed up or frustrated you are with your situation. People paid money to see them after all.. and not little money in many cases.
But I can´t see Ben doing only conventions in the future, so I´m not worried about him becoming like that.. not the slightest bit!

I'm not worried either, I know I'm pretty gullible here but I just feel like he had the time and wanted to do something nice for his fans while he could... or well maybe his PR people wanted him to do something nice for the cookies
And that gif... that dancing... d'aaw!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really worried that he'll only be doing conventions in the future, either. And as long as he's doing it because he wants to and not because someone else thinks it's a good idea, he should just go ahead and do it. I hope he'll continue to do what his heart tells him to do, because that'll be what makes him happy - as is the case with everybody. And if he's successful with that, it's even better.
I'm just saying: If I could decide for him whether he should be doing some conventions or a movie, a play or a mini-series, then I'd be all for the movie, the play or the mini-series.

Oh I think he absolutely would have wanted to give the fans the best possible experience, and it sounds like he did
Realistically, also, I think he pulled out of Crimson Tide for whatever reason, and made up for that lost income by doing some voice work, personal appearances and cons; and that's just fine He has a living to make after all - just like everyone else!
I don't think there's a lack of work. I think he's a smart cookie and he's making sure to make the right choices, acting wise; staying true to himself in other words - I like that
I am very sad for him about Star Wars though, but I can see why maybe that couldn't happen once he'd played Khan.

You're right. I couldn't. Especially when I saw the 'full clip' link of Ben's musical entrance someone posted in it's comments, over here:
I missed this thread over the weekend, and now haven't been able to sleep yet thanks to being rendered dead. D-E-D. ded.
All from your lovely posted pics and snippets of quotes! Echoing all the sentiments about his wonderful-ness and happy it went so well. I can see how it might be frustrating for his PR/appearance organizers (or himself at times, with opinions expressed about his journalist snippets), with how well known he is for being the most rambling-on charmer ever, but my god, he is the biggest, funny sweetheart! And that fans got photo ops, signing session, table-to-table chats, and a 'panel'? Agree it's interesting he seems to be doing so much 'small' stuff, but figure he's just carefully picking projects, too. Loving all the bits of questions you've posted, if there's any more? Going to go melt over into a pile of sleep now…. gracias.

Russell, thanks for that link!! Now I´m ded too.. A-dor-kable..
But I kinda feel sorry that I watched that hacked video now.. well. Too late and I didn´t know it was hacked back then.
Different time zone from you, Russell, but I´m going to get some sleep, too.. got a lot of catching up to do, the last week has been just horrible.

Yeah, I've never watched it actually, but I felt quite sad when I read his explanation about that vid, for all sorts of reasons.

I'm almost glad I've not watched that hacked video... and I'm not going to look for it either (Secretly yes I'd love to see it, but I won't)
Thanks for the video Russel!

That is the risk of our modern technologies ... and being glassy because of the www ... especially if you are in great demand ... To keep something "private" is incredibly difficult nowadays.

I completely agree with you, he is a smart cookie, probably one of the smartest people around in the business right now. He is very intelligent and obviously interested in politics, he has an opinion and isn't afraid to state it - I really love him for that.
At the same time, being a smart cookie doesn't automatically secure you roles. Some decision makers in the business might even be a bit cautious to cast an actor who has become infamous for holding political messages into the cameras on a film set.
And sometimes there just aren't any offers, for whatever reasons. I'm sure he wouldn't just accept any role for the sake of working, and that's definitely a good thing. But I'm also sure that it's not always up to him.

I've never watched the video either, and after seeing his reaction to it being leaked, I'm glad I haven't!

I'll admit I have seen it, only because it was in some mash up with tom hiddlestone dancing and it went viral.
And you could see it was at a wedding and that made me uneasy.
Anyways I much prefer our Daft Punk dancer anyways! Thank you benedict!!
Welcome to the fun Russell please feel free to gush all you like!!
