Re: The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (was "Richard III")

-----------------------------------

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Oh Susi, you are quite bloodthirsty, aren't you?
At this point Margaret is a she-wolf without teeth, she has no son and heir and herself no claim for the throne. And even during the war of the Roses they were less eager to kill women than men. To kill a prisoner is bad enough, but to kill a queen prisoner would be "too much" as Edward says.
On the other hand, Henry VIII was quite willing to send on the scaffold not only some of his wives, but poor old Margaret Pole, as well.  Bloody Tudors!

Re: The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (was "Richard III")

But this isn't historically accurate anyway, Margaret was dead at this time.

She was?
Well, she's a good character so I'm glad she is in the play.

I confess I was so tired that I was falling asleep last week!
Thankfully I snoozed earlier today, so hopefully I'll stay wide awake tonight.

No, she wasn't. She was taken captive, ransomed by the king of France (3 years later) and went to live there. She died in 1482. We will see her in Richard III, in any case (now THIS is inaccurate, historically)

Re: The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (was "Richard III")

Wow. That was amazing!

Once again I am amazed by Benedict's talent as an actor. This character gave him a lot to play with and he did it perfectly!

I loved how he spoke to the camera, directly to the viewer...

And you in the very end I had such a sympathy for him...

Re: The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses (was "Richard III")

No words. What a performance! And the whole film was brilliant. Loved Sophie Okonedo again and Ben Daniels als Buckingham was wonderful. The scene where he offers Richard the crown - perfection.
