Oh dear, this made my day! But is it certain? I hope so, I would be too bad if this project came to nothing. He said some time ago he wanted to play Richard and I've always seen him as an ideal candidate for the part. (Sorry, Martin...) And this being for BBC = we will all be able to see it = buy DVD = see it again and again...

I trust the Sunday Times, I don't think they would say it unless they have good foundation.
I wouldn't mind betting they'll be filmed with early 2015 in mind, prime time for the BBC's Winter British drama.
Seriously, this news is up there with Hamlet! This is going to be 90 minutes to two hours of television platinum (never mind gold!).
This is bringing Shakespeare right back into the forefront of the arts. A whole new generation getting to see and enjoy it in it's finest form with Benedict, who could become the bigger and better version of Branagh, at it's head. It's SO exciting!!!

Oh my goodness, breaking this has put a massive smile on my face. I repeat what's been said; he is made for this role!

I'm eagerly waiting for this to be confirmed! As soon as it is, I'm going to buy the DVD of the Hollow Crown to get me in the mood!

As I say Tinks I think the Sunday Times is pretty reputable.
And the bbc has confirmed they're making two new Hollow Crown films, Richard III and Henry VI.
Don't know about you but I think this thread is going to be busy today. He's doing his second panel and is on very good form if twitter is anything to go by!!
I'll post some snippets on here shortly!! ;)

Great - looking forward to it!
Plus, if the Richard thing is true then I agree with you that it hopefully will be early 2015 that it's shown. I can't see it being aired at the same time that he's playing Hamlet?!
Crikey, he's got me almost wishing the year away!!!

These lovely tweets from @MissMillyLouise
@MissMillyLouise: "Why did you photobomb U2?" "I jumped really really really high"
"And the free vodka that @TheEllenShow gave me"
On Meryl Streep "I thought 'holy f*** you are incredible' she is an epoch defining actress"
Benedict is talking about how inspiring Julia Roberts is
"You can call me sir or lord cumberbatch"
Benedict was very humbled to be welcomed by a First Nations Indigenous Australian!
Benedict is dancing in stage now
"hello vino, don't be shy" Benedict to his glass of wine
on fans affecting perf. Sherlock "I may want to go somewhere with the character but bear with me"

Sounds like he's at his waffling best! I think he should maybe go easy on that Vino!

Yes definitely!!
Lord Cumberbatch though! He's a wally. Our wally though.
I know I sound like a right saddo but we have been so spoiled and to know there's going to be even more next weekend makes me giddy with happiness!

You can arrest me if you like....
@theAUreview: "When did it air here? You probably watched it when it aired in the UK though hey? Oh I'm gonna arrest every one of you here." #benedict

Oh he's on form, alright :D

He's now saying it's important to find a positive from even the worst characters (Atonement), and he thinks prisoners should read more books, send books to them.
Loving this panel, just praying for video footage of it!

He's being so open out there - he's like a big, talkative, man-child!
I bet his PR person is having Kittens!!

He is definitely on point! I'm hoping for footage because it seems like such a brilliant panel!

Probably!! But I love how down to earth he is, how freely he talks and how little he cares what's expected of him!
You've got all the Hollywood clones and then you have photobombing, goofy Ben with his velvet voice and strong opinion and good humour. I'd have one of him over 1,000 of the others (see: Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Bradley cooper et al)
He's a breath of fresh air and I'm so proud to be a part of his fandom!

Wow, this is wonderful news. Very exciting!

Agreed, Clare, and that's also why I think what we see of Ben is largely what you get.
Ofcourse he'll be slightly different with friends and family - we all are - but if he had one eye on his image all the time, he wouldn't say and do half the things he does, imo.
I mean, I'm a fan of Clooney (nothing like to the extent I am with Ben though), but you can clearly see that he has a "persona" - I don't think Ben does, I think he's largely, for better or worse, just Ben.
That's my take on it, anyway!

It's definitely been confirmed now!
"@BBCTwo: We're delighted to be able to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch will play Richard III in our second series of Shakespeare’s History plays."
