It definitely was a type cast. Benedict just fits into this ambience. They certainly wanted a little bit of Sherlock's arrogance too.

Wilkens' voice is so similar to Mycroft's. I had to make sure it's not Mark Gatiss The advert is funny and Benedict looks amazing in the blue suit. I was afraid being in a tyre commercial would be bad for his public image but I'm not anymore.
