Yes, that's what first came to my mind, too.

I have not the slightest idea what you are talking about.

Well, but then John would have to lick his lips practically all the time...! All the time he's with Sherlock, anyway.

Nothing new but a nice summary. I think I shall post this in "the other thread" as well.

What the hell is wrong with me!  Why do I immediately hear the POV of a certain, shall we say, 'smitten' detective when I hear the lyrics to this song - and not think even for one second about Mary Morstan. Could someone tell me, please!!!! I don't understand it at all!

Well, I've been saying this right along: we’re dealing with very clever, tricky writers. So I certainly agree with that part!  The writers and other showrunners have been having us all on, and they've been doing it right from the pilot, deliberately. I don't believe they could have predicted the vehemence of the fandom's reaction to all the creative chioces the showrunners made over the three seasons we've seen, but....  they definitely (IMO) are tweaking us on purpose, a bit like the way CAM flicked John's face, except we're expected to enjoy this tweaking and have fun with it, not get all confused, angry and defensive.

I'll take jam, scone and clotted cream and apart from that this meta says it again and it can't be said often enough: Nobody started watching this show with the idea "Oh, there will certainly be something romantic going on between Sherlock and John, so let's pay close attention and we'll detect it!".
No, we detected it because it's there, not because we wanted it to be there!

This is amazing. And btw, who is Mary Morstan?

And I fully agree, Solar.

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

Just discovered something nice on tumblr. You all know the "meretricious" and "a happy new year" joke from TGG. But did you know the source? The gay writer and critic Gore Vidal (last paragraph).

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

I think it is genuine. There are a lots of Google results from various sources. And a YT video I currently do not have the time to watch. So we can assume it was said by him.

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

I'm sure it was said by him but did the writers know about the quote and took it?
