Sherlock´s brutality again:

What a terrible inhuman creature.

I don't see those as mutually exclusive. To me it's quite clear that Sherlock is brutal. He is also caring, vulnerable and sometimes almost soft. It's not either/or, it's both. Which is what makes him such a complex and interesting character, I think.

No. But according to Benedict he is only like that.
Offline
I don't believe that is what he meant, he has always said that Sherlock is a complex person who is capable of being both good and bad.

In about every interview I have read he keeps emphasising how brutal and sociopathic and ruthless Sherlock is. He hardly ever mentions Sherlock's other side.

That's because he is brutal and ruthless (but not a sosiopath). I have never heard Ben mention anywhere about that being all he is. In one of the earlier interviews he even called him "clearly a hero".
I think perhaps he focuses on that part of Sherlock because the fans tend to romantice him a bit too much. Same thing happened with Draco in Harry Potter. He was written to be this spoiled, bratty and horrible kid. But partly because of how he was written and partly because he was played by a handsome actor, fans were all gooey over him, romanticising him and writing emo fanfics about him. J.K. Rowling was shocked and went out publically to really state that was NOT her intent for the character.
I think Sherlock might be going through something similar, and that is why Ben feels he has to state that Sherlock isn't just fluff and kittens.

I understand what you mean Vhanja, but I must side with Susi here. Benedict could so easily speak about the complexity of Sherlock´s character, but usually he immediatelly jumps to "Sherlock is awful" vibe like a broken gramophone disk. It sets my teeth on edge. Interesting that Moriarty, that man who blows old ladies up for fun, is never described that way....

If he does that, it could be because of what I wrote in my previous post. But perhaps we've seen different interviews, because that is not the impression I have from what I*ve seen of Ben talking about Sherlock.

...okay, so let me bring this back on topic for just a sec...

Wonderful, Solar.

Oh, that was lovely.

And now, look at John here. Totally breaks my heart... these two guys just don't get it together. At least not yet.

He´s so atuned to Sherlock´s pain here and yet remains unnoticed himself.... yes, it´s sad.

Alright! Apparently ASiB did not end originally where it ended. Gatiss wrote a scene where Irene forces Sherlock to strip at gun point so that she can use his clothes for disguise. Please note the line "I hope you know this doesn't mean I'm interested in you."
God bless you Mark.

That´s intersting! Such a pity that it was never filmed - would be funny!

And that's the wrap on Sherlock being attracted by her and only her...

Wonderfully put, nakahara. And very platonic
Now that I think about it, Plato had to know Sherlock and John. Look, he described them in one of his dialogues:
„And when one of them meets with his other half, the actual half of himself, whether he be a lover of youth or a lover of another sort, the pair are lost in an amazement of love and friendship and intimacy, and would not be out of the other's sight, as I may say, even for a moment: these are the people who pass their whole lives together; yet they could not explain what they desire of one another. For the intense yearning which each of them has towards the other does not appear to be the desire of lover's intercourse, but of something else which the soul of either evidently desires and cannot tell, and of which she has only a dark and doubtful presentiment.
Suppose Hephaestus, with his instruments, to come to the pair who are lying side by side and to say to them, "What do you people want of one another?" they would be unable to explain. And suppose further, that when he saw their perplexity he said: "Do you desire to be wholly one; always day and night to be in one another's company? For if this is what you desire, I am ready to melt you into one and let you grow together, so that being two you shall become one, and while you live a common life as if you were a single man, and after your death in the world below still be one departed soul instead of two - I ask whether this is what you lovingly desire, and whether you are satisfied to attain this?"- there is not a man of them who when he heard the proposal would deny or would not acknowledge that this meeting and melting into one another, this becoming one instead of two, was the very expression of his ancient need.“
(Plato: Symposium)
John´s and Sherlock´s love is platonic indeed.
