Doll porn!! lololol
I liked it just fine until their dropped trou, and then they lost me. I was sitting here thinking what a cute little Sherlock coat they made for his doll. Someone worked really hard on the clothing. But yeah, their little disembodied behinds, ugh.

This is quite a long meta which sums up the John/Mary relationship versus Johnlock. I put it in here in order not to mix up too much Johnlock in other threads.

I read that one this morning too. Very interesting!

It is all so crystal clear when put together so neatly that I can be truly astounded how someone actually can see any romantic story arc with John and Mary. If she stays and will be on the side of the angels they have to spice up their connections by miles. As have Martin and Amanda to sell those feelings.

I also read it and find some of the points the author makes... debatable. But all in all it's pretty convincing, from the analysis of the bonfire scene to all those comparisons between Mary and Sherlock.

What I like about the meta is that she/he mentions how Mary's character is slowly turned around, that there are hints before HLV, that she repeatedly and subtly tries to drive a wedge between Sherlock and John. For me the shooting is only the dramatic climax of a longer development.

I miss a sentence or two about the tarmac scene. Because this left me so uncomfortable and unsettled, I have the feeling that Mary just got her way there. Emphasized through costumes, make up and signs of affection from John.

Of ocurse the meta is not perfect but I found it was a good attempt at comparing what elements of a romantic relationship we get.
As for the tarmac scene - yes, on the surface Mary is the winner. But the hug is between her and Sherlock and the comparison was about her and John versus Sherlock and John. (I am not happy with that hug, btw, just saying). But then you have to watch Sherlock's falls. It falls the second Mary steps back. And then there is this. I have tried make a gif of it but it is very hard to capture.
This is John's reaction when Sherlock says: "Since this is likely to be the last conversation I’ll have with John Watson …"
This is John’s face in this precise moment. He does a little thing between a breath and a sigh which is hard to capture. He is bracing himself for the farewell. Next time we see his face he has himself under control again but this moment allows us to look inside. The meaning here is in the small things.
One last point: Look at Mary and John at the very end. She is clearly shocked about Moriarty's appearance - more shocked than is reasonable according to what we know - while John looks smug and satisfied awaiting Sherlock's return.

Imagine this scene on the show!

Sad but brilliant.

Excuse me, I seem to be leaking feels all over the place.
