Do people think the TEH commentary helped?
Cos I did.
Every bit of information helps..

It was different for me, because I came late to the series and already knew that Mary wasn't what she seemed. But I struggled with TSOT and even given the commentaries I still have problems. If both Mary and John craved excitement, etc., then why obsess so much over the details of a wedding? Were they just trying to avoid their true natures? I wish there was a TSOT commentary too, but I doubt that it would be very revealing. .
If there are any particular bits you want from the HLV commentary I can try to transcribe them (although it won't be until tomorrow night at the earliest).

Having to watch a wedding episode was bad enough...tee hee!

I think John tried to persuade himself that living with Mary in the suburbs and working as a GP was what he craved after going through the hell of Sherlock's death. He wanted something completely different that did not remind him of his dangerous life with Sherlock that finally killed his friend.
He only later realises that this is not what he wants. And I think he realises this the moment he is in his marriage WITHOUT going on cases with Sherlock. He did during the engagement as we see in TSOT but not after the wedding.

The question is, if they seriously want them to continue as a team.

Sherlock and John? I very much hope so. Everything else would possibly ruin the show.

No, they mentioned the threesome as team, if I'm not mistaken.

I can accept that in grief he became blind to his own motivations, but he could have lived in the suburbs and so on without fussing over the minutae of an expensive wedding. But John is clearly, obviously (even to himself) bored with his life when Sherlock comes back. It doesn't ring true that he would go that far, especially as he had a girlfriend/wife who also couldn't go more than 6 months without a "case". In that sense, I suppose the point was that Sherlock saved them - with him in their lives they didn't need to seek excitement and could convince themselves they were happy with that stuff ... but instead, they end up drawing Sherlock into it their world, as much as he draws them into his.
Mrs House, I thought they meant the three were a team during S3 (solving the case at the wedding, etc.), not that they were going to continue as a team into S4. But I suppose it could mean that?

About Mary's "I like him": I almost hate to admit it, but this actually is one of the few things concerning Mary that really works for me. I felt that Mary and Sherlock kind of bonded during the scene in that third diner. When Sherlock talks about John's moustache and John says "Mary likes it" and Sherlock says "No, she doesn't" and it becomes apparent that she really doesn't... it's really not important, I mean we're talking about a stupid moustache here, but that little exchange about such a minor thing and the fact that Sherlock and Mary both agree that the moustache is awful... yes, that worked for me. And I always thought that Mary's "I like him" has a lot to do with that little exchange. And I mean, it's not a declaration of love for Sherlock, it is what it is: she likes him, nothing more, nothing less.
Doesn't mean that I have to like her because of that.

I really do not see how that could work for me. Sorry but in this case I would prefer them to stay very true to canon. I know I have no influence but it is not the show I came to love.

What comforts me a bit is the announcement of a dark season. I mean, we had quite a lot of darkness in series 3 but everything is better than a rom-com with Sherlock babysitting while Mary wields her gun in a dark alley.

It's so interesting, because I watched "Unlocking Sherlock" (or was it "Sherlock Uncovered"...?) again tonight where Martin talks about Sherlock and John and that everything in the show is about the two of them. Everything. And I saw this and just thought Oh yes, those were the times... I want this back!

The bolded bit really made me laugh , but the thought of a rom-com S4 fills me with horror!

I don´t know, but somehow the prospect of bad things that will inevitably happen to good girl Mary, the boys grieving for their lovely friend and wife.. doesn´t really comfort me. Fortunately I´m almost over being emotionally invested.. *keeps telling that to herself*
