If you got a prompt you're not comfortable with I'm sure an exchange can be worked out?

No. Definitely not. I'm doing this. I can do this. I will do this. It'll work. Somehow.

I'm giving the fic I'm wiritng so much thought at the moment, and I love to think that someone else is giving so much thought to the fic I'll get. This whole Fic Exchange was a wonderful idea!

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

True!
Btw: When this whole thing is over, I'll probably have a story which I won't have used (I'm writing it right now, but I got a better idea now for the Exchange, but nevertheless I'll finish it, because I think it's not that bad). So, if anybody else is writing more than one story, maybe we could think about putting those in this thread as well, after Christmas? Might be interesting to see what people came up with besides their 'final' fics?

I have only this one so far but I would be happy to read all people have written.

That's a great idea, Solar! I'll try and contribute something.

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

Yes, we could either try and fill the gaps, or we'll just have a collection of 'futile attempts'.

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

Maybe we should fil the gaps with something completely different, Sherlock-style carrols or christmas poems ...

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

The prompt I gave was really broad (sorry to whoever it was!) and the one I got was broad too. made it hard to start but I finally have got something going now...
Next time I think we should try making up a title prompt or something...
Anyway, still enjoying the challenge!

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

You guys are all really sweet, just so you know. I love how much thought is going into this, and that there's already talk of next year!

An exchange would be rather messy, I'm afraid, since most of us have already started writing/panicking and thus developing ideas, but I think one rule of thumb we could all use if the prompt hasn't been very specific is to think about what one personally would like to read with regard to the respective requests. Mind maps sometimes help, too.

And please keep in mind that we're all friends here- if the outcome isn't what's been expected, no one is going to tear anyone's head off about that. It's the thought that's counts, and the fun (as we have already established ), and I really like what Schmiezi said earlier: "I'm giving the fic I'm wiritng so much thought at the moment, and I love to think that someone else is giving so much thought to the fic I'll get."
Everyone's doing their best!

Boy, I really didn't mean to sound like Agony Aunt...

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

Well, I've got to tell you that after looking at some of the new photos being posted over in the fav Ben/Sherlock pix thread that now I think my piece may have more fluff than originally intended. It is Christmas after all...right?

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

Yeah well, I'm afraid my story won't be a really joyfull christmas story.

But back to the beta-read question. I would really felt much more comfortable if someone could have a look at it for spelling and grammar mistakes. Maybe I am not the only one? I don't know, how much time you, Kerkerian, have to beta-read several fics, might get a bit stressy  . Unfortunatley, I have no other idea, because as I understood, it should be a surprise for everyone which story is from who, right?

Wow, I had quite the opposite problem - the request I've got was so broad, unspecific, that I panicked al little, wishing for more specific requests.

Sounds like you could've gotten mine as well, hehe

Indeed!  I've come up with what I think is a pretty neat idea for the fic I'll write, 'tis exciting! Now, I just have to write it...  It will definitely challenge me since I've never written anything like this before, the only other fan fic I've written is incomplete and based on an existing story...This'll be my first original fan fiction work, hope it works out *crosses fingers*, I think I need some cookies...maybe I should make a batch?

Re: Secret Santa Fic Exchange 2013

Batch...? Did I hear Batch...?

edit: I do have another question... When it comes to posting our fics, do we (or better: do you, Kerkerian) just post the fic without any further comment of the author? Comments like: "Dear xyz, I hope you'll like the story, I haven't been able to fulfill all of your whises because..." - something like that. Or do we just let the fic speak for itself?

It is perfectly legitimate if you write a comment to go with it, I think. I will post each story under the header "Happy Holidays, ... (insert name here), so that it's clear for whom it is, and that's a very good opportunity for the anon. author to say a few words.

Sadly, I won't have time to properly beta-read all the fics, as all my weekends from the end of November till Christmas are fully booked, plus the holiday season is very work-intense with regards to my job, and on top of it all, it's also my birthday in December.

I can however offer to at least proof-read for mistakes before posting the stories.
