Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

A strangely understated love, if you ask me. But we had this in detail in some other threads.

------------------------------
"To fake the death of one sibling may be regarded as a misfortune; to fake the death of both looks like carelessness." Oscar Wilde about Mycroft Holmes

"It is what it is says love." (Erich Fried)

There are many gay or bisexual men who marry women for diverse reasons, so that is for me not the ultimative proof.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Yes. And as I have said before, I do not think that John is gay. Which does not mean he cannot be attracted to men or, better, to one man.

And again - the wonderful moments of missing each other, of talking as if they were one person, of selflessness are all between John and Sherlock, never between John and Mary. And for me this is what defines true love.

This.

That's it.
John never says (and I know some things don't have to be put into words, but in this case, well...) that Mary is the love of his life. He says that she's the best thing that could have happened to him. Let's not forget, he most certainly has been in a huge crisis after Sherlock's 'death'. He certainly needed someone to help him through those traumatic times. I'm not convinced you always find the love of your life in such moments. She obviously was there for him and helped him get better again. But 'love of his life'...?

It's OT, but let me tell you about The Doctor and Rose in "Doctor Who" just briefly. Now that is a relationship that evolves from a friendship into something that made me feeling all warm and fevered. They never talk about until the very end, they never tell each other that... you know... but you feel it...! And wow, how you feel it! There is so much going on between them, it's unbelievable.
And yes, the difference to "Sherlock" is that DW is about The Doctor and Rose, whereas "Sherlock" is not about John and Mary. But if you want the audience to believe that it's love - and maybe even the love of their lives - then it doesn't really take all that much. For some reason I don't see and, more importantly, I don't feel it with John and Mary.

There's one thing for certain John isn't short of marriage guidance conusellors, whether he wants them or not!

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

There's nothing to counsel, because the marriage won't last anyway.
Apart from that, I'm not counseling, I'm merely stating what I see and feel - or don't feel.

Let me show you what I see and feel instead of talking about it. A love story in two pics (and there is no female in it):

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Though of course it matters what actually happens, rather than what we feel.
Presumably Mary will shuffle off this mortal coil, one way or another.
Whether John then leaps into Sherlock's bed...well,  we'll soon know.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Susi, thanks. That also underlines that sometimes words aren't even necessary. You just show it - and some people will see, some people won't. That's how it goes.

Fine. If you think love is just about jumping in each other's bed ...

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Once again, nobody is denying Sherlock and John love each other and Sherlock definitely wants John back.
And no Susi I don't.
But I do think there is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with somebody.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I thought so. I thought of living and working together, sharing everything, helping and supporting each other, having fun - which leaves no space for anyone else but them. Therefore I hope and wish for a relationship which comprises everything one associates with love in spiritiual, emotional and physical sense.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

It's just the two of them against the rest of the world. In all shape or form.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Because I read something about Sherlock in John's bed and vice versa ... a lot in this thread.
I wouldn't be a Johnlocker if this is the only aspect.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Ok, let's try and get down to brass tacks.
There is the sex thing.

Which I agree may not always be present in a relationship, for whatever reason and there may be particular reason with an asexual involved .

But apart from this;

Friends.
Could flat shate(separate rooms)
Work together
Socialise together
May give each other a loving  hug when the occasion demands.

Couple;
Usually share a room, tho I accept, may not for one reason or another.
Usually have sex(see above)
May marry.
Hold hands, cuddle, snuggle, kiss etc...

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Gently: It is not. And the thing is - can they really return to what they were before: a celibate Sherlock married to his work and John unsuccessfully dating a string of women? I think not. We had this and we had a married John and an unhappy Sherlock. So now there has to come something new.

Besleybean: This is about what can happen, not what has happened so far. Of course they do not share a room but this does not mean that they could not do so in the future. The same goes for the kissing, snogging, whatever you want.
