That sounds faszinating. Do you remember the title and / or the author?
Wake You Tomorrow by StonedWingAngel. I just reread it and realised that I didn't remember it correctly; it's a sneaky Anderson, not Anthea, fic. I just remember her bit the most.

Oh, bittersweet. Thank you!

The only Major Character Death fic I would ever reccomend would be "Alone on the Water" and I think every Sherlock fan should read that one at least once.
When I first started out I wasn't interested in reading AU's but PILR changed that. I also wasn't interested in teenlock or parentlock but after finding some really good stories I had to broaden my horizons.

I call that story 'The One That Actually Made Me Blubber Like an Idiot.'

One of the very first Sherlock fanfics I read. Really, like the second or the third. Was completely unprepaired.
You are absolutely right, Mrs President, every fan should read it. *sob*

Are you also not a tiny bit into some kissinglock, Mary?
" The four times Sherlock kissed John for science" is relatively chaste and was my entry to ff.

I agree with both of your points. There are still things that are simply not my cup of tea, like Omegaverse which is just too weird for my taste, but as for the rest … There are some brilliant AUs, especially set in the 19th century, and of course I love "Nature & Nurture".
And for me "Alone on the water" is one of the few major character death fics I read and liked. And of course SilentAuror's "The Final Proof" which is pure beauty.

Nothing can prepare you for "Alone on the Water." Poor MadLori. She's constantly breaking hearts and scaring people for life.

Oh, I forgot to think of retirement fics. I am at peace with major character deaths if John and Sherlock are old and grey and spent the last years of their lifes happy together in Sussex.

Schmiezi, just read the last chapter of your fic. Thank you so much for updating. Loveitloveitloveit!

Yes, and this just what "The Final Proof" is about. Sad but in a good way. Although I used up some tissues while reading it.

Let me put it this way. I don't read S/J fics where the primary focus of the story is the relationship and its physical aspects. If it's a great story where the characters happen to be paired up, I'm in. I also don't have issues with fics where Sherlock is wishing for more with John because I think that Sherlock might be gay, as long as it doesn't get porny and this pining isn't central to the story (like In the Bleak Midwinter (A Canticle for Advent)).
Now, if we're talking Sherlock/Molly fics, just about anything goes as long as the characters are recognizeable.

Well, then maybe you can suggest a good Sherlolly fic, because I still fail to see the appeal of this pairing.
I have been open to AUs and parentlock lately, and it was worth a try. PIALR and "Nature and Nurture" just touched my heart. But I have yet to find a Sherlolly fic that moves me.

Don't really like parentlock, the only one was " Albion and the woodsman"

Thank you!!!
I have the word document with chapter 14 open right now, one page is already finished. It's just that the combination of baby Schmiezi and working full-time again slows me down a bit.

Oh yes, that is a very lovely one. Have you tried Nature and Nurture?

Longer Than the Road That Stretches Out Ahead.
The pairing is almost secondary to the journey into Sherlock's head after The Fall. AU/canon divergent, but so in character that I wish it was canon. The development of their relationship surprises even them. This is probably my favourite Sherlock fan fic ever.

No, haven't read that one. And I know how you feel with baby Schmiezi and balancing it with work, mine are a bit older already but we currently have to deal with night shifts from time to time looking forward to the next chapter though.

And I'd like to point out that it's okay if you don't see the appeal of the pairing! It's like me and S/J. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.
Interestingly enough, I do, very occasionally, read slightly more steamy Sherlock/Lestrade stuff if the story and characterization are good. I just see that pairing better than I do Sherlock/John. To each our own!

That's one thing, I don't read any pairing other than Sherlock and Joih. I don't begrudge anyone else their ship of choice but for me the characters belong together and anything else won't work.
Also, I am 100% Pro-Porn. I love a good story but yes sometimes I just want some PWP.

mrshouse, Nature and Nurture is worth being given a try. It's quite long and the author fails to give it a proper ending imho, however, it has very funny and sweet moments and some interesting ideas as well
