BC officiates gay wedding

Just found this in the news...

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/benedict-cumberbatch-officiates-gay-wedding-article-1.1408792

Makes me like him even more - that's a wonderful thing to do for a friend. He's welcome to officiate my wedding any time

Oh, that's wonderful!

Dean - "I'm not happy about it. But I got to move on. So I'm gonna keep doing what we do...while I still can. And I'd like you to be there with me."

Sam - "I'm your brother, Dean, if you ever need to talk about anything with anybody, you got someone right here next to you."

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

That's sweet I can't wait until the law changes here so that two of my friends can get married (even if Benefict Cumberbatch can't officiate, lol).

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

Lovely gesture. I wonder why it's possible in Spain but not in Germany. We only got a civil partnership for same-sex couples but not "the real thing". Thanks to a government dominated by a party who's got a "C" for Christian in its name.

I totally agree with you. And I also would have thought that Spain is a lot more conservative than Germany (aren't about 90% of Spanish people Catholic?)... apparently our government has a lot to learn from them.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

I learned that it was the Socialist government that in 2005 introduced gay marriage in Spain. And I was surprise as well as Catholicism is still very strong in Spain.

Just imagine living in th US, where some states allow gay marriage, some allow civil unions, and then some won't even recognize your marriage.  It's ridiculous at this point.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

A really lovely gesture from Benedict.

@Susi and SherlockianDE: Well, the german state sees no advantage in subsidising (I hope I picked the right word) a same-sex marriage since it can't produce children who pay taxes. Homosexual partners should be allowed to adopt children then but again the government needs months and months to make a decision there.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

But this makes no sense. Heterosexual married couples who have no children get tax advantages, too. So it doesn't depend on if you have children but if you can marry. There are some men and women marrying only to have financial advantages whereas if same-sex couples want to marry out of love they are not able to do so. This is silly.

Yeah but that's the idea behind the whole marriage thing.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

So the next step would be: "You wanna marry? You don't want children? Sorry, in this case you are not allowed to marry.
And what about heterosexuals who can't have children? They will be forced to divorce after...hm...let's say.... three years?

I "understand" (wait....no, I actually don't), why church can have a problem with homosexual marriage, but the state??

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

The state can't take advantage from it. It's all about the money. Justice? There is no justice. Not in this world.

*cough*

ANYWAY. What was it with Benedict officiating his friend's wedding?

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

Yes, that's what matters. It was a lovey thing to do and I like him even better for it.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

I'm going to skip over the social commentary and just say it took my breath away to see these photos - the spectacular setting, the handsome couple, and beautiful Ben, looking so 'Sherlock' in his suit and dark curls, officiating!  It just could not be more perfect! Can't you just hear his voice as he reads the words?  Don't you just wish you could have been there?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And I said "dangerous" and here you are.

You. It's always you. John Watson, you keep me right.

That's exactly what I thought, too and then I had to laugh about that picture at the bottom, of Benedict wearing shorts and flip-flops - I don't think I've ever seen him dressed that casually.

Also made me wonder how they're going to dress Sherlock when shooting "His Last Vow" in August... surely not in his usual coat!? I'm getting heat stroke just imagining that
But I'm going off-topic again, sorry.

Re: BC officiates gay wedding

Nice gesture!

And err... am I the only one to find him incredibly sexy on the last pic? Shorts, suit vest, flip flops. Anyone? Oh god, i'd never thought I'd once find flip flops sexy
