Ooooh! Sounds interesting!  And which casting spoiler?

Re: Series 3 discussion SPOILER THREAD!!! WARNING!!! SPOILERS!!!

As I've been a bit out of touch lately, I have a question for the Setlockers, or anyone else in the know.  Do we know if Amanda (playing Mary) took part in Episode 3 filming?  I think she did - at least I remember she was at North Gower -  but I can't remember for sure if she was in character.  I'm just wondering how long she actually lasts within the series.  Does she make it through all three before she's killed off? Will her fate be part of the cliffhanger we'll have to endure?

She's definitely in episode 3, and looks to be a big part of it, actually.  Whether or not she dies, we don't know.

That sounds awesome!
And it'd be even better if they had a little joke or hommage about Neverwhere in there, since Ben was involved in that

Re: Series 3 discussion SPOILER THREAD!!! WARNING!!! SPOILERS!!!

Schmiezi, you've got a very good point there. At this point, they could all just sit in 221B for 90 minutes and read out the phone book. And okay, maybe they could at one point explain in two to three sentences how Sherlock survived.

That is certainly right.
And I didn't mean to say that I don't care for the plot, as a matter of fact I am very fascinated by the idea that a lot might take place underground (where I live you can make sightseeing tours underground, which is great!). But underground/tube or not, I never had any doubts that they'll give es something great.

She's definitely in episode 3, and looks to be a big part of it, actually.  Whether or not she dies, we don't know.

Thanks for the info!  I'm really interested in how they will portray the interaction between Sherlock and Mary.  I think in canon Holmes didn't have  much to do with her after "The Sign of Four" other than inquiring politely after her health. But here in the BBC world it's sure to be a different story.  Will they like each other?  Amanda is aces at portraying warm, affectionate characters.  Mary may be someone who manages to break through some of Sherlock's barriers and may even urge John to get over any resentment he may have about the Fall.  This could be an entirely new slant on "Look at us both" - only with John as the object between them this time. Who knows.  I can't wait to find out!

The train and tube business is also interesting to me.  I actually just finished reading a non-canonical pastiche by Guy Adams called "Sherlock Holmes: The Breath of God" and the climax takes place with a scary train ride through the newly built London subway system of Victorian England.

I don't think they meet at the Daffodil, myself.  I think something else happens there, John gets kicked out and Sherlock doesn't reveal himself until the kebab shop.  I don't think John will be fully conscious in the bonfire because he was drugged up, but maybe he's moaning or something and it gets the girl's attention.  He's actually UNDERNEATH the wood, because Sherlock has to dig him out of the fire.  Plus people would probably notice a real man burning to death on top of a bonfire ;)

Well, no they won't come face to face at the Daffodil, I know. If John intends to propose to Mary, I don't think he will get this far in the restaurant, as they get kicked out there before they even eat. So maybe at the Kebab shop, we will see

As for the bonfire, there is a casting description out there on the internet where they were looking for a father (age 35 to 50), who isn't very patient with his daughter when she tries to tell him, that the effigy on the bonfire is alive and telling her that he wants to get off the fire and asks her to help him, and let's face it, this would be quite a perfectly dramatic moment. So, this sounds to me very much like he maybe is conscious (albeit still under the influence of the drugs he had been given when he was abducted) for a short while before the fire is actually lit. It also corresponds with the shocked and screaming girl we got to see in the last trailer the BBC released.

I've read the casting description, but the description from the people who were there at the bonfire (as well as pictures and video) clearly show Sherlock digging someout from underneath the fire, not on top.  People would have been able to tell the difference between an effigy and an unconscious man on top of the fire before they lit it- but if you bury him under the fire, no one knows.  The little probably tells her dad that she sees a man in the fire, but he makes the mistake of thinking she's talking about the effigy instead of John.  That's my guess as to the situation.

So the "I'll burn the heart out of you" was a series 3 hint? I just catched up on that bonfire thing and well if John is IN that fire... then maybe Moriarty meant it like... literally, not just metaphorically? The thought had occured, but without Moriarty in series 3, I thought it was impossible. But if he had ordered someone to do it... is there any context to the bonfire thing yet? (sry, as I said just now catching up, I haven't read the whole thread so far...)
I liked the metaphor, burning a heart out of somebody, and well, Sherlock always seemed to care not -only- about John, but... the cookie man, "burned to a crisp", felt not quite right to me... it seemed like a clear hint a person would burn, not a heart... it wasn't explained, like the girl's scream... like there was still context missing - is that it then? the bigger picture of that line?

And, really, I am so excited about the tube hints. That would be fascinating, Sherlock and the Tube, two things I'm obsessed with... ahhh. I. cannot. wait. any. longer. I would beg, if begging would help.   ;)

I still can't believe what happens to poor John, with that bonfire. Like he hasn't been through enough already, with his supposedly-dead best friend coming back to life and giving him a shock...

haha Mycroft is Merlin, yesssss :D

It's amazing how many hints you've found! While I do think there might be coincidences, it's really fun! I wish I had my Grimm Fairy Tales here for re-reading... as child I had a lovely book of them with beautiful pictures... loved it.

Well, but there wasn't much actual fire in the series so far... it was mostly blowing things up. I'm really excited about that bonfire thing now.

Me too! The whole episode's gonna be one hell of a rollercoaster ride for John...

And now everytime they play James Blunt's "Bonfire Heart" on the radio, my thoughts automatically go to that bonfire scene
