What date and month was it? We could make it their anniversary!

Unfortunately, it's not written in the canon. But then - aren't we celebrating a long-term anniversary here anyway? Who could probably ask for more?

JOHNLOCK. SHIPPING IT SINCE 1887.
(That was when Study In Scarlet was first released!).Post Of The Month-Award to you, Boss!
Honestly, would you mind if I use that as a name for my tumblr page?
I concur!

I do like the Johnlock pairing, but I also like their relationship as best friends too I would imagine that having a friend is a huge deal to Sherlock, who is perhaps used to being alone and detached. John is probably the first person in Sherlock's life that he has truly cared about
And the best love relationship is one that starts as friendship, IMO. Ah, such is the reason for fan fic.... a tale that's been told about two zillion times since fan fic started to circulate, back before the internet was even invented. *smile*
Amen and pass the biscuits! I've alwaysed believed that the reason my husband and I work together is because we were Friends for a long time before we became LOVERS.
More than likely that's why I adore the friends to lovers stories, because I lived it.

As Ian Hallard said, if anybody is actually hoping for Johnlock...they will be disappointed!
I actually would be kinda embarrassed if they "went there". I love my Johnlock in fan fic, but no-way-Jose do I want to see it in the flesh, as it were, on the show. *cringe* No idea why, but actually I feel the same way about John and his girlfriends and the implication of sexual whatever-ness between Sherlock and Irene. I'd prefer my Sherlock ship-free, as much as possible. Let the bromance speak for itself (God knows, it already does, lol) and let them solve cases, have a giggle or a "little domestic" together, stand up together with the cops against the bad guys, run around Cardiff-that-'s-supposed-to-be-London and give us a good time as we watch. No ship. Just my preference; I realize that the original canon had some ship in it.
But fanfic? Mmm, that's a whole 'nother world. Bring it on.

I agree with keeping it separate...people would tear the show apart if it happened, those small-minded individuals out there

I'm strange or something (apparently) because I don't want to see either of them getting it on with some woman, either. Het romance has been done to death and back again, boring as the devil IMO, and I'd love it if they just stuck to their action-adventure and friendship.

I don't want them paired with anyone else either
It's all about the bromance!

I agree.
Tho canonically we know Watson marries.
Let's hope any wife is bumped off quickly.
For me, both stories and show have always been about the bromance.
Brilliant tho SCANDAL is, I do not watch it as much as the others, as I cannot bearr Irene near Sherlock.

Are we going to fight about how John and Sherlock are the only true pairing?
Guys, please accept that Mary will be part of the Sherlock family soon, as well as any other character. I mean, we get to see Martin and Amanda having a relationship on screen. I will ship them as hell.
Apart from that, I totally agree with acientsgate.
Never underestimate the power of friendship, though. It's stronger than any romance.

And of course sometimes, by default, outlasts the romance...if the wife unfortunately gets bumped off.

Unfortunately.

Well Steven is gonna be clever about it.
We will have grown to love this character and will be upset at their departure...
But if it gets the boys back together...
Offline
Absolutely. We will feel exactly what they want us to, due to brilliant writing and stuff. Can't wait!!

Of course they'll make us suffer - much more than in canon. I mean, who's really interested in Mary Morstan? She's so unimportant to ACD that her death is mentioned in passing. We can be sure that Moffat will use all his skills to play our feelings like a keyboard.

Great post! Couldn't agree more!! I love the prospect of seeing Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington as an onscreen couple.
And I also believe that we will feel about their relationship exactly as Moffat and Gatiss want us to feel about it. I also agree with all of those posts in here stating that we will really come to like Mary, because I think she will be quite different from canon Mary. We are dealing with a woman of the 21. century here, and not with an all obedient wife of the Victorian era. So I think she will be a force of her own, and I also think she will play an important part in reestablishing Sherlock's and John's friendship in "Empty Hearse".
And, yes, certain friendships have a reputation of outlasting love stories.
