Sherlock Holmes-An experts' view of expertise by Didierjean, A & Gobet F.

This utilises Sherlock Holmes character in the Conan Doyle stories to illustrate expert processes as described by current research and theories especially the role of perception, nature and the influence of expert knowledge. It also uses him to show a number of gaps in current research on expertise that have barely been addressed e.g. Forms of reasoning, the influence of emotions on cognition and the effect of age on experts' knowledge and cognitive processes.

This link will take you to the page on Brunel University's website for this research paper. At the bottom part of the page is their link to the PDF for the paper itself. It is well worth reading especially if you are interested in psychology.

Don't make people into heroes John. Heroes don't exist and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.
