Of course, now I remember. I think it's still my favorite Sherlock AU. I have no idea if the author is male or female, or whether or not he or she was ever deployed in Afghanistan, but I thought the combat scenes she wrote were graphically realistic. Being an American, with our long history of a homophobic, intolerant-towards-gays military, I had a hard time with some of the less-than-private sex the guys had while John was on active duty, but.... in the end, I even believed that. abundantlyqueer is quite a wordsmith. I totally "bought" what she was "selling". I've read it twice.
And yes N&N is a WIP but totally worth it. We keep trying to convince her that it should never end so...
The way she's going, she might fulfill your wishes in that regard, lol. I normally don't read WIPs, find them frustrating to the max, to wait between chapters and to deal with so very many orphaned stories, but that one has me hooked in as well. I love little Oliver, how he calls things "sodding" and how he can't go to sleep without his skull. lol Mini-me-Sherlock all over again. The author is another example of a fine wordsmith.

And I love N&N so much which I never expected because the idea sounded so weird. But it is one of the most beautiful fics out there. And she updates regularly.
Parentlock is actually quite wonderful, in the right author's hands.
I presume you guys have all read madlori's Genie fic,in which John's teenaged daughter Genie keeps a diary, and it's fascinating and well-done to the max. Here it is, The Blog of Eugenia Watson
for the newbies who might not have already seen it.
As for N&N, I try to bite the bullet and let a month or so go by between reads, so that when I do read, I can sit and consume 3 or 4 chapters at a time, which is my preference over being fed dribs and drabs.

I keep seeing this Nature&Nurture title pop-up on this thread. Is there a link?

Link to chapter 1 of Nature and Nurture. I found it a bit slow when I started, but soon enough, I was absorbed into their family life. It's now @ 55 chapters, with no end in sight.

But the chapters are of a resonable length. It's not like each one is 20 pages or something. I found it a pretty quick read and I admit I jump on new chapters as soon as their up.

Wooo, that latest chapter of N&N was a doozie. Loved it, loved Sherlock's last line. Totally satisfying, that. And everytime John calls either of his guys "love", I melt a little more.

It was wonderful!

Perfect writing.
And now for a very now one, written by the incredible Ivyblossom and Loudest-subtext-in-television (you can guess what she writes about). Unusual POV, really different and so well written. Read it!
Whatever Remains, However Improbable (12838 words) by ivyblossom, Loudest_Subtext_in_Television
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sherlock (TV)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences

Additional Tags: POV First Person, POV Second Person, Present Tense, Future Tense, Operation Johnlock, TJLC, fanfiction as argument, fanfiction as meta, It's a love story, it's always been a love story, The inevitability of Sherlock and John's great big and shiny love affair, fourth person omnitemporal tense
Summary:
The evidence is all there: we know it's bound to happen. Sherlock Holmes and John Watson are going end up together, aren't they? Obviously! We can show all the evidence in meta posts on tumblr (and oh we do, we do!), but we could also sit them both down and tell them it's going to happen. And how it might happen. Doesn't hurt to nudge them along, does it?

I will read this later today, but is it okay if I didn't understand what some of the authors' tags mean?
Operation Johnlock
TJLC
Fan fiction as argument
Fan fiction as meta
Fourth person omnitemporal tense
What are those?
It's annoying, to those of us who don't hang out in tumblr land much, to have people use abbreviations and "in with the in crowd" terminology, as though everyone should understand what they're talking about. Oh, well. I'll read it anyway, 'cause Susi rec'd it!

You do not have to know about all the tags. Loudest-subtext is one of the most ardent Johnlockers and has published a lot of metas to prove how Johnlock is prepared in the series to become BBC canon. Some of the tags are about this.
What I love about this fic is that it is completely written from our - the fans and fanfic readers - POV. And they use the quite unusual second person singular. I do not want to disclose more but I am sure you will get the knack very quickly.

1. Operation Johnlock
2. TJLC
3. Fan fiction as argument
4. Fan fiction as meta
5. Fourth person omnitemporal tense
I'm not sure on all of them, I imagine Operation Johnlock is their own tag and it means what it sounds like - they're advocating for Johnlock on the show.
2. TJLC = The Johnlock Conspiracy. It's a theory amongst some of the fans that the show has intended to make Johnlock canon all along.
3 & 4 - again, not 100% sure how they are using this. Meta is the analysis of something. I guess they simply mean that they are using fan fic as a vehicle to discuss/analyse the presence of Johnlock in the show
5. Again, not sure. I had a quick look for fourth person definitions. Omnitemporal, of course, means all times. I imagine they're writing it from the same POV one could consider God's POV.

Got that one bookmarked but haven't had a chance to read yet. Read "Shallow Grave" last night. Very sexy.

Thanks, Susi, for the help with the authors' tags translation. Most of that's too deep for me, lol, I just want to read a good story, you know how that goes.

That's what recs are for ;-)

@tonnaree: "Shallow Grave" is amazing. As I said, Silent Auror is one of my favs.
